space mines that are size of probes, moderate damage, All single damage type, 1 EM, 1 therm, 1 ken, 1 explosive. Placement questionable, 4 and blow, maybe 5 sec status areas. The rest is all in your imagination.

i place 500 of them 15k way from a gate in low sec.

If you don't follow the rules, neither will I.

Space mines were once part of EVE. Check on the Anaconda Mine. They were removed because they caused a ungodly amount of lag when people were spamming them around gates.

Only way I could imagine mine fields coming back would be as damage bubbles like you have warp disrupting bubbles. Place and anchor a minefield control bunker, put mines inside up to a certain number that limits the amount of damage it can do and ships get damage every few ticks depending on their size. Bunkers can be shot, which will disable the field and they only stay active a limited amount of time, maybe add fuel requirements for it.

Some mines are still out there, you just need to start to do level 1 missions for Guristas.

A year or so back I did that on SISI just to see what they would be like and I went there with a Manticore and wanted to blow some ships up.
And there they were (well I didn't know that they were mines at that point).

Those tiny structures which I never saw before and I sneaked up on them and my Manticore went into half armor by just one and then it hit - mines Lol

Just look for a level 1 Gurista agent and take a few missions and you will see mines.

Eve Minions is recruiting.

This is the law of ship progression!

Asking to bring back mines is one of the worst recurring ideas on these forums.

There should not be a mechanic in the game where someone can blow up your ship from complete safety. or while AFK

I was going to write a lenghty post on how awesome mines are and how you could limit them so they aren't an overpowered lagfest however i'm feeling lazy so ill break it down in key points.

Mines are an extension of drones (use drone bandwitth have drone limits etc)
Mines have an AOE effect and explode when in promimity or when shot at
Mines Cloak when deployed but uncloak when they move
Mines Don't require target and agres based off standing and fleet status.
Mines have explosive velocity like bombs however unlike bombs large mines will effect small ships.
Mines have small medium and large and damage types similar to drones EM Therm, etc.

My 2 Cents

- Get 50+ people who can all launch 5 small mines apiece. Deploy 250+ mines on a gate.
- This means less mines will be needed to effectively "camp" a gate.
- Great... now you're flying blind in several giant warp disruption bubbles with 250+ mines in and around it.
- And? How would this change anything? Most alliances are already NBSI (Not Blue, Shoot It).
- Bombs DO affect small ships. Two or three of them will nuke most frigates... one if the Frigate has its MWD on.

- Yep at the expense of no drones for dps once the engadment starts
-It also means fleets will take damage from their own mines if they try to pvp at brawling range
-Cloaky mines.. its debatable i like the concept but their are some draw back as well.. one good point would be that mines wouldn't decloak you.. just explode on you..
-Basicly unlike drones mines would agress whatever closest meaning unlike drones you couldn't call primary or apply mine damage to all one target.

I think in short some balancing would need to be done to make them comparable to the drones they replace in the drone bay however it sounds like a fun addition to eve if it was played right.

- Who needs drones when you are sniping? Or how about making a bunch of alts to just deploy mines and sit 100+km from the gate.

- Wouldn't that be in conflict with the mine's ability to differentiate between friendly and non-friendly? Oh yeah... sniper fleets wouldn't be affected.

- This still doesn't fix the issue with bubbled gates being spammed with mines. As it stands now, the chances that a covert-op ship can run through a bubbled gate depends heavily on whether there are active defenders on the gate and whether they have brought the right ships. With mines that autoaggress at proximity (and, if cloaked, not being able to see where they are and avoid getting close) and the fact that most small cloaky ships have minimal tanking ability, you don't need any real gatecamp (or skill) to lock down a gate.

- Well... that's not the point of mines. The point is that they effectively create a "wall" that is just there... always watching... and, with enough of them, no way to get around.

Basically I'm against the concept of making gate camping easier than it currently is. People in 0.0 space already have bubbles which is a HUGE advantage even to small forces. In low-sec... I think there is already a nice balance.

Kamikaze drones on the other hand, would be fun.

Like a mini bomb in a drone... Target, fire, launch new drone, rinse & repeat until out of drones...
