So I'm not really great at this sort of thing, but my client crashed twice in the days since Retribution 1.1 and 4 times tonight alone since Retribution 1.1.3. A dump file isn't generated and I don't get an "EVE has stopped responding" message. I've just been forcing the "not responding" client to close from the task manager. Initially I thought it was only the 2nd client that would freeze but the 4th freeze tonight affected the 1st client so it seems random.

Number of running clients, when the freeze happened: 2
Full screen / windowed / fixed window: Windowed
Was the client minimized, when the freeze happened? Yes. In fact, that's the tell that it's stopped responding. The frozen client stays minimized and you can't maximize it again.
Audio enabled? (on how many clients?) 2
Was the character of the frozen client in a fleet? Yes, in all cases.

One thing that I've noticed that I didn't see mentioned here is that this has been happening to me while mining with drones deployed. I was concerned that I'd lose my drones but I haven't lost any despite forcing the client to close repeatedly. When I restart the client that froze, the drones are always returned to the drone bay even though they were deployed when the freeze occured. I have no idea if that's relevant but it sure seems odd.

Hi,

While we have made a bit of progress in looking into this (it happened for example once on my machine), we need to ask you for a bit more information to be able to resolve this faster.
Please respond with following information, if you experiencing freezing clients (which do not recover at all):

  • Number of running clients, when the freeze happened:
  • Full screen / windowed / fixed window:
  • Was the client minimized, when the freeze happened?
  • Audio enabled? (on how many clients?)
  • Was the character of the frozen client in a fleet?

Several of you have already given some of this information in earlier posts, but it would be great to have a bit more info on this.

Thanks!

Tried them all and still no changes.

Window: Fixxed Window or Windowed
Min/Max: Both client crashes regardless
Audio: Both on and off
Fleet: Tried in fleet and off

Ok update, just had the freeze and checked the process info:
CPU at 25% (meaning one core at 100%), and the memory usage was increasing continuously at a rate of about 20mb/s.

EDIT: And froze again.
EDIT2: And again, dammit. Since i had the IGB open in all three cases it could be related maybe.

same here , core 1 idle , core 2 on 100% , client not responding , white screen , and that was just one client ( no multiple accounts running)

CCP folks looking into this. Me and an eve friend did some things to attemptto fix this, we went into my eve directories and manually deleted my cache and i updated my graphics drivers. This stopped the issue for 2 days but since dt tonight its starting to happen again. Only thing that has happened since dt was the small patch tonight.

Number of running clients, when the freeze happened: between 1 and 3 (i had 2 tonight when i greyscreened just a few minutes ago)
Full screen / windowed / fixed window: I play window mode on all clients
Was the client minimized, when the freeze happened? the client was maximised
Audio enabled? (on how many clients?) I have audio on all clients
Was the character of the frozen client in a fleet? Yes it was in a hq incursion fleet in all instances of the greyscreen issue occuring. My booster alt also in the fleet but in deep space has not suffered from greyscreen once nor my missile alt flying missions near amarr (not logged on tonight)

To give CCP Habakuk the additional answers to my former post:

  • Number of running clients, when the freeze happened: 5
  • Full screen / windowed / fixed window: Fixed Windows with all
  • Was the client minimized, when the freeze happened? Yes
  • Audio enabled? (on how many clients?) yes on all 5 (without music)
  • Was the character of the frozen client in a fleet? yes, every crash

Hope that helps.

Yeah, this isnt a small problem. In TVP we can't get a site done without 5-10 disconnects. I recently lost a nightmare due to client lock.

I have 2 complete logserver zips for you. They were too big to upload with a bug report.

First file was not fleeted and was not minimized. I run dual screen and I am pretty sure that the focus was on the client that did not crash. The crash happened with in 20 mins or so of the end of the logfile.

Second file was not fleeted and was minimized (both screens). Not sure when the client crashed on this one, sorry. I went afk and fell asleep.

Just thought I would mention that I can't replicate the issue during the daytime (-8:00 GMT here in San Diego). The clients will crash multiple times during US primetime and after. ((now that I said that it will probably crash multiple times today 8-p))
EDIT: 17:21 (eve time) as I finished this post and maximized my clients one of them crashed (Murphy's law). Log server was not running. starting it again now.

The file(s) that can be retrieved with the above link is (are):

White out 2-27 #2 no fleet.zip (25.488 MB)
Whiteout 2-28 no fleet not minimized.zip (26.01 MB)

The file(s) will be available on the server for the next 7 days.

are we coming close to a solution because this is getting annoying....

new info:

So when this does happen to me and i restart / power off and on my computer, i cant replay the game for 5 minutes without it happening again. What i do then is "verify game integrity" through the steam client which is essentially a reinstall... it tells me some number (400 or so) files could not be verified and are being reacquired... once steam finishes i open the game through steam and there are another series of patches that eve downloads....

once that all finishes i can run the game for a while (random amount of time... a week or so on avg 2 hrs or so at a time) until it crashes again... then it will crash every 5 mins until i repeat the cycle...

is it possible that the fact that i downloaded the trial version and decided to keep going with it when my trial period was over have anything to do with it? it shouldn't but weirder things have happened... i just want it to STOP

oh btw let me reiterate that this only happens with EVE

No solution any time soon, these kind of 'random miss-happenings are one of the hardest to diagnose and fix, I'd look on a time horizon of weeks unless some CCP dev pulls out a magic wand and pinpoints the flaw with the aid of the tooth fairy

OK I finally got a logfile with a timeline of when it crashed. I zipped the logfiles and uploaded them to this bug report.
Your report ID is 154473

This time the client that crashed was maximized and had focus, the other client was also maximized.
The crash occured soon after I enteered the belt. When I came back to the computer about 22 minutes after I started mining the screen was locked and it showed no ice in the hold. WHen I relogged the ship had 14 blocks in the hold, so 7 cycles approx 188sec/cycle = 22 minutes. Read "approx 22 minutes before the logfile terminated is where the crash occured"

I "Quit" the client that was working and noticed a normal termination in the log. When I clicked the windows dialog to close the locked up client there was no such log. I proptly saved the log zipped the log files and generated the bug report.

I hope this will give you more information and help to narrow down when in the logs it crashes.

You can find all of the other info about the comp/graphics and such in the previous posts in this thread.

Just to be clear: I was NOT in FLEET and the client that crashed was NOT MINIMIZED.

Guys,

After todays patch it actually got a lot worse! I used to have a couple of crashes a night, on average. Tonight, after this latest patch, no client has run more than 40m without crashing. Sometimes, crashing a few minutes in.

It's borderline unplayable .... please fix this.
