How to throw a wrench in macro mining

To start with, The starter systems will be locked to only accept noob ships thru the gate. The Starter systems will be the only systems with Asteroid belts in the drop down. The finer points of logistics in gate travel can be worked out by CCP.

All other systems will have the asteriod belts deleted from them. Instead pilots will have to scan out asteriod belts each day to mine. All the systems will have different numbers of asteriod spawns, same number as what they use to have in belts. These spawns will be random in location everyday to remove the simplicity of day to day mining that makes macroing easy. Each system could be given a "Ore Value" number in its info to help pilots better find favorable systems for mining

Furthermore these asteriod spawns will have natural side effects to prevent other pilots from taking advantage of others "hard work" at scaning out locations.

Most of what we expect in ore deposits per security status and location will remain unchanged. The spawn however, will be progressivly harder to scan in relation to the security status of the system and type of ore found in the spawn. Which means higher skill will be needed to scan better belts.

In consideration to the change, the orca and roqual may need an extra high slot and bonus to probes scan strength

Why would you retain belts in noob systems? They're supposed to be areas where you learn how the actual game works, so why teach them mechanics, that only exist in new player areas? They should just learn how proper mining works and how to find such sites.

What exactly do you mean with:

Are you suggesting, that once someone has scanned an asteroid others can't scan down the same site? Would it also affect the difficulty of scanning down ships in those sites?

If you simply wanted to prevent macro mining, would not just smaller belts that need to be scanned down do the job?

Ir ring-mining is implemented, CCP makes it sound like not paying attention to what is happening in the belt will get your ship blow up.

Sounds like they want to bring back the old Asteroid game I used to play on my Atari 2600. I guess the alien UFO is the Gankers in that analogy.

I apparently have no idea what I'm doing.

its too much to expect a new account to learn scaning off the bat. first they learn the basics of mining then earn money, leave system and learn how to find belts in .9 and so on

No the sites can be scaned out until their depleted. not being about to scan the ships out in these areas is to prevent the ability to aviod the dificulty of scaning for ore sites

pretty sure this idea has been discussed a lot, and its a popular one, even with me.

however, most ppl spoil it by trying to slip low sec ores into hi-sec. The belts dont need to be any more valuable. i only like the idea because exploring areas for resources seems a natural progression to more authentic mining. or at least more authentic than undocking and warping to the same bookmarks everyday.

if it would be possible to distinguish a high density of minerals (e.g. more +5% and +10% ores and/or just more units of ore) from a low density on scan (basically something that displays hot spots) it would make mining less tedious, if only just a little. having some belts apparently more valuable than the others would make belt selection more important to miners. that odd belt with a heap of ore in that u try to mine before ur competitors get there.

it would make things more interesting, more time saving, and would have little effect on the work-done/isk-made scales.
