Seems everything about ESO will blow it out of the water. Any bets on how long WOW will last once ESO is released?

I try to be nice and mind my business just shooting lasers at rocks. There is just way too many asshats in New Eden for that to happen.

I'm sorry to point this out to you, but current MMOs blow WoW already out of the water and WoW is still more popular then all of them combined. So even if ESO is the bestest game ever, it might not even make a dent in WoWs numbers.

But then, numbers doesn't really means much Big smile.

Quality over quantity.

Here is a list of my current EVE / PVP videos:

1: Asteroid Madness

2: Clash of the Empires

3: Suddenly Spaceships fighting in Tama

The only thing that will kill WoW is WoW.

Any MMO that tried to be a WoW-Killer failed.

The one thing that may potentially turn me off to this is when he stated that it's one server and that the game decides what gamespaces to put you into with your friends and guildmates. Gamespaces? What the heck does that mean? Starting to sound instanced. I don't dig that.

Btw, Wildstar is looking good.

You better roll that first 'R' when you say my name. Seriously.

Every other MMO every year is hailed as "the WoW killer".

A past WoW subscriber myself, I know this. Tera, Rift, The Secret World, Guild Wars 2. All "WoW killers" when they are reviewed... and that was in just the past couple years. WoW has proven they can stick to a fun formula that is relatively simple for the masses.

The only thing that is going to kill WoW is WoW itself. Before Cataclysm came out it was 12 million strong. 6 months after Cata it was down to 10 million over stupid game design choices. The thing that made me quit was that panda crap. Who wants to play a panda?

Spaceships are much cooler anyway.

A grunt on Dust514 needs to call and Orbital Bombardment on WoW's servers...

Probably quite awhile what with Duncan Jones directing a very expensive WoW motion picture for next year. Should become even more popular I would think.

This guy gets it.

There is also a huge difference in being able to attract the initial crowd and getting them to stay for the long run. Marketing hype and the typical initial honeymoon period will guarantee a good initial turnout for the game. After the honeymoon is over you have to offer a superior gaming experience compared to the competition or slowly fade away as the next big things starts getting hyped and interest in your game withers away.

Just theory here, but maybe it has to do with the concept of most folks being absolutely adverse to any kind of change. Thus Wow will probably survive just by sheer force of habitual power on the part of their player base.

This applies to EVE a bit in the aspect that CCP stated that one thing they have found is that players who hit the 3 year mark rarely unsubscribe. Again, a sheer force of habit.

People stick with what they are comfortable with in most of life's aspects.

Because they all are practically copy cats. EOS form the looks of it is trying to be original as possible. It isn't often any MMO peaks my interest. I'll be honest I am picky bastard when it comes to video games. Doesn't have what I'm looking for or lack anything I consider important I won't waste my time with it. I have played several MMOs and only one; EVE, has managed to keep my longer than the first week. SWTOR I quit quit playing before the first week was up. The world was about as open as a submarine. The opening quests took ******* ages. Sure EOS won't be all out sandbox like EVE, but unlike WoW and it's dozens of clones. I find it appealing. MMOs keep subscribers one of three ways. 1. They have enough content to keep you. 2. Some people are way too committed 3. They always are improving upon the original game.

i just don't want them to screw up the elder scrolls. i would have far preferred a fallout mmo and let TES remain single player for all time.

Who says they don't have another TES single player in the pipeline. They have a long history of starting the next game project before they even release the one they are working on now. Even with their toolset they have used for every game they have made since Morrowind it still takes them 3 years to complete a game. TES is Bethseda's holy grail I don't think they are going to do anything to screw it up.

EDIT: You can always tell when Besthseda is gearing up for a new project just by looking at their current job openings. LOL

The makers of the TES single player games have nothing to do with ESO. They just sold the lisence to use their intellectual property to another company. It's being lead by people from mythic, so think dark age of camelot/warhammer online. It will have no impact on the making of the single player game series.

thus it being some 1000 years before skyrim.

that places it about.... middle of the 3rd era or thereabouts.no wait, was wrong. perhaps about the 6th or 7th century of the second era.

WoW is an outdated beast. It's awful and it has always been awful, and ESO isn't likely to change just how awful it appears. People play it for reasons I cannot fathom, though I am sure most of them have nothing to do with game content. Social interaction, online buddies, maybe even the inability to learn how to play something else. Maybe all of these.

ESO looks good in some ways, but I'm sure it will be just another MMO. I leave out the RPG because it doesn't really exist except in public areas where players make believe they are RP. None of these games have any RPG content; not even SWtOR with it's massive voice acting and storyline. It's just grind, hack, slash, zap, grind.

tl;dr: I've looked at it and it has nice concept armor.

..and to put that in perspective, EVE has more RPG than any MMORPG I've ever seen released. It's probably the only game, where you truly play a role, that exists on the market today.
