OP: The only thing you should feel bad about is picking such a pointless target and then telling the world about it.

Mr Fuego wrote:

I don't feel anything about anything, ever.

Ginger Barbarella wrote:
Feel bad because of pixels on a screen? Hardly.

Feel bad to trying to drive a player to commit suicide while speaking on-stage at a gaming get-together?

Oh, right sorry... can't talk about that here.

If he was unstable enough to off himself over a joke from Mittens then it was only a matter of time before he did it over running out of pancake syrup at breakfast or something. A joke can't cause suicide and nobody has any reason to feel bad over it, either Mittens or the loony his comment was directed at. And you are quite possibly the last person in Eve who hasn't gotten over it yet.

Maybe the Empty feeling was from it not being a challenge either, But more likely the horrendous betrayal what you done.

Try out faction war or RVB or join a anti pirate corp then you will get the adrenaline rush of PVP with stuff that shoots back instead of feeling meh.

Its all just pixels and role playing, what ever profession you choose to do in eve have fine

there is a fine line

standing on stage at a gaming convention, whilst being streamed live, encouraging your 10k alliance members to encourage a guy to commit suicide, is sick in the head, how ccp still allow shittiens to still play eve is beyond me, that is crossing the line,

you didn't cross the line, nowhere near, have fun,

The worl is a bad place and so is eve.

having said that a personal code of honour is not a bad thing.

For me bittervet tears are far more valuable than newb tears. Would I have pulled the trigger? In your situation probably not, but should you feel bad? No, they learnt a valuable lesson in trust sooner rather than later.

Also FYI at the people mentioning the fanfest incident. Crime and punishment isn't a platform for you to air your real life disgust. Write Mittens a strongly worded letter of disapproval or something don't turn a valid debate into a diatribe over old old old news

I'd agree with that. And not because I appear to be turning into your Eve stalker......

For me I'd rather smack down some :smug: 1337 pvper when he's not expecting it than some clueless newbie. But having said that I don't judge people who do gank the newbies. That'd be too much like disapproving of eves game philosophy :)

I actually just talked to the owner of the corp, and he pretty much confirms that they are still out there doing what they do. So maybe it wasn't so horrible. But I doubt I will be doing it again anyhow.

edit: Apologized and stuff. Though I did not repay him any isk. Perhaps in the future.

Giving them some advice on how to avoid that sort of thing in the future would probably be more value to them than some ISK.... plus it wont cost you anything. Win Win!

Give it 1-2 more tries, if still nothing...well...it's not really your thing.

I will be honest, don't know what the fanfest thing is about. I am rather out of it when it comes to things like that. I just play the game. Anyhow I also have no problem with other people doing it, that is what made me want to play in the first place.

Hey, your bank balance is just pixels on a screen too, I'm sure you wouldn't feel bad if someone made a withdrawl or two from it :)

Always found "the pixels" a silly argument. Almost as bad as "its the internet, they're not REAL people".

But yeah, OP did a bad thing and felt bad. That just means he's human.

at this point what they are talking about is ancient history. Someone got drunk and made a fool of themselves. The joke they told was in poor taste, and they suffered consequences for it.. and probably an epic hangover as well. Find YOUR own niche in this game. If betraying others, game or not, is not your thing don't do it. There are many other ways to play this game. Not everyone has to be a bad guy, every universe has some good guys too. And a whole bunch in the middle, not wholly good nor bad.

I still consider myself fairly new to this game. I still have a LOT on my list of things I want to do and mostly now I'm waiting for skills to finish training to be able to do those things.

As a new-ish player, essentially an outsider looking in on EVE culture, this "it's just a game" and "pixels space" and "internet spaceships" mentality. I just don't get it. How much time and effort do you put into internet spaceship, Barbarella?
Isn't this just as much of a hobby and passion as anything else? If your hobby was restoring an old Mustang and I came and smashed it with a crow bar, would you be content when I told you "Relax, it's just metal 'n ****."?
So why do the EVE player base constantly seem to brush off their passion, that they obviously pour so much time, energy, effort, money and planning and, as others on this thread have mentioned, a range of emotion? and say it's nothing more than space pixels?

I think it is this - nobody bled real blood, no actual physical thing was broken, no real money was spent to replace the thing broken(or had to be - plex buying is optional). The thing is: This is a game, everything is replaceable (unless you have no clone). It isn't that those of us who lose things do not get pissed off, but for the most part we do not rage over it. I accept that If I lose a ship or get scammed in this game then I bear a part of the responsibility. I did something wrong - didn't align to station, wasn't aware of my surroundings, went to lo-sec assuming I wouldn't die, etc. If you come out of the blue and destroy the Mustang I just rebuilt, it is physical, money is lost and I might shoot a few bullets at you, certainly the cops will come and visit legal consequences upon you. That is real life, this is a game. Let me say it again This is a GAME. And also - losing ships, isk, skills due to an improper clone do serve to impart a lesson on game play and as such are valuable.

Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much.

They were so ass-broke after you ganked their Orca.....that all they could afford was a 5M ISK bounty???? Lol

They were obviously dirt poor to begin with, but you went ahead and took away what little they had - just for a laugh.

Its like beating up inebriated homeless people and then stealing from their shopping carts.

Funny in a sad, pathetic way. And I like it.

Good job, you are a credit to the race, and EVE.

The problem I have with this is it's just so meaningless. From what I can see, you had no reason to do this to them, no personal animosity, nothing to gain really. To me, that detracts from the game experience. Makes our universe less epic. Kind of like random war decs. To what end? None. Why bother - just to be annoying like a 13 year old boy with a crush on the pretty girl?

For example, yesterday a total stranger randomly ganked an empty Mammoth I was flying. Meh, I just warped off and we'll probably never see each other again. As nearly as useless an encounter as can be.

In the end, it doesn't matter really, it's just how Eve is, so no need to feel guilty about it. It's just a game and you acted within the rules. Should the game be changed? Maybe, I don't know. Some people have suggested a toggle for whether corp mates are allowed to shoot you or not. Doesn't matter to me really, you just adjust your play to whatever mechanics are in place and do whatever you deem fun.

I just wish there were some purpose to these types of things, something more than bored players essentially trying to troll total strangers.

Let me just say from personal experience that the first few times you do something like this you do feel a bit of remorse or pity. Don't worry, its just your humanity showing through.

Just keep doing it and those feelings will go away. In my case, it took about 20 or so times before I didn't feel it at all.

Well more or less it was just the excitement they seemed to have for their corp. I don't know I feel I ruined it for them.

Those type of corps are doomed to failure honestly. You did these "newbs" (noob in an orca, ya right) a favour. If it hadn't been you now, it would have been someone else later. Eve is hard, deal with it.
