hi all .... just a quick question regarding lowsec gate camps

i understand the mechanics of getting past them in a covert ops ship, and i also know the mwd+cloak trick....

but what im a little confused on, is what exactly to do if ive determined that its a gate camp im not going to try to advance passed and i just want to go back through the gate i just jumped through... ive seen a number of people give the advice to just burn back to the gate and jump.

what i would like to know, is the exact steps i should take to get back through the gate as quickly as possible while giving the gate camp the least amount of time to target me....

do i wait for session timer to change (if i should, why)? or do i just select gate in overview, and hit approach and then spam the jump button? or is it best to hit align, then mwd, then start spamming jump???

if anyone can give me a detailed step by step on what to do to just go back through the gate i came through as quickly and efficiently as possible, i would greatly appreciate it....

thanks

You need to know how fast your ship can be destroyed by the ships that you see in the gate camp, so, once you jump in and find yourself in a gate camp, do take the time to assess the overview, what ships they are, and hopefully you have a ships chart somewhere with a rough idea of their DPS and capabilities.

Because your goal is to get away from being a target in the area. The longer you're there, the more they'll shoot you. If your ship aligns and warps away fast, then do that. If you think you can make it to the gate faster than you can align and warp, or you're pretty sure they will warp-scramble you, then try to MWD to the gate to escape on the other side.

To get back through the gate, select the gate, click the Jump button in the Selected Item window above the overview, and activate your MWD, then spam the Jump button until you jump. They'll probably follow you on the other side, but if it's high-sec, their only option is suicide-gank rather than gatecamp gank.

i should have noted ... this is in concerns to me being in a cruiser (vexor/arbitrator), and with a mwd and improved cloaking device equipped.

The jump button will align, approach, and then try to jump you, so just hit that and then hit the MWD and then spam the jump button so it jumps asap.

Just, as a point, if you are going Low-Sec to Low-Sec, it can be advantageous to soak up a few shots if you can before jumping. That will prevent those players from following you through until their aggression timer is up.

Edit: Above Cruiser level, in a Cruiser or lower you should be able to jump and align and be fine if the other side isn't camped.

That's also why any decent Low/Low, Low/Null or Null/Null don't let the entire camp shoot at someone that is burning back.
Let a minority take a couple of shots to see how he reacts, if he jumps, the rest jump after him...

Heheh personally I'd use my fast typing speed, and type in local:

Gentlemen, let me tell you a story:
Back in the day
when I was just starting to play this game,
I didn't quite know that

Then I'd jump at this point.
