Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

I heard they want to replace it with MMA. which is wrestling for the 21st century
At the end of the game both the pawn and the Queen go in the same box.

Not suprised honestly. The IOC is not made up by athletes, its made up by buisnessmen looking for advertising deals with Adidas or Visa or whathaveyou.

Greco-Roman wrestling is one of the foundaitions of the olympics alongside track and field and weightlifting. To ignore it for some stupid commercial reason has really killed the IOC's credability as far as sports are concerned.

We are never seeing MMA/Pro boxing because the two are uncompatible with a short duration ladder based competition system like the olympics use. You can't be beaten to **** and then exepct to compete the next day, thats the reason why we have amateur boxing instead of pro boxing for the olympics especially given the popularity of the latter.

EVE online is the fishermans friend of MMO's. If it's too hard you are too weak.

Holy crap. We're back on-topic! Shocked

The IOC lost credibility long ago in my eyes, with their flat refusal to deal with corruption in various sports and in various national bodies - Especially the judging. The Korean games were a specatularly corrupt example, with flagrant violations by the judges olong national bias lines. And the IOC just shruged and turned away. I haven't trusted them since.

But this is beyond jaw-dropping. It's a declaration of war by the IOC against the very games they represent.

Tell someone you love them today, because life is short. But scream it at them in Esperanto, because life is also terrifying and confusing.

Racewalking is harder than it looks. But, frankly, it's not that difficult. Pingpong? Whiskey-Tango-Foxtrot is that doing in the Olypmics, anyway? Ditto and double-ditto for Badminton. Roll

Wanna keep Volleyball? Fine - Keep the beach version. It is MUCH harder than the on-court version AND looks better.

Wrestling is the pure spirit of Olympics - person-to-person in a test of strength, speed,* reflexes, and skill.

*Yes, speed - you have to be faster than your opponent - *starting* the move first isn't enough.

The sport of speed walking began at public swimming pools. By kids trying to get from one side of the pool to the other as fast as possible. Without breaking into a run and getting a whistle blown at them. It might be true, who knows?

That's just crap about wrestling not being popular enough or economically viable. How many people around the world compete on high school and college wrestling teams? More than a few. I don't think those guys would mind watching some Olympic-level wrestling. The IOC is probably just trying to make more air time for women's beach bikini-and-cheesecake volleyball. The TV networks can't get enough of that stuff. Bah humbug.
