So after some petitions, and some run arounds... We been trying to figure out how many is too many... but the GMs wont answere,

the rule that it's okay to use objects for decloaking and such applies to drones also.... but you aren't allowed to put out so many that it creates "excessive lag" to gain an unfair advantage... after asking several people that fell victim to decloaking drones, all that we asked confirmed there was no lag... we even jump in and out, and notice no lag... It's fine that we aren't allowed to create "lag" but when there is non, and third parties also confirm there is none... then how do we quantify how many drones we can put out before it is petitionable?... is 200 too many? a thin layer around a gate? is is 50 too many?

200 drones is the same as 40 ships can put out... so is 40 ships with their drones out creating "excessive lag"?

It would be nice if CCP could put a average number on this so a better guideline could be put in place. It's not an exploit according to the rules we can find to put out drones... to decloak... but it's an exploit to put too many...

I think ten would be the maximum.

Seems to me you'd have gotten the hint by now. Roll

CCP isn't going to give you a concrete number. Doing so would only encourage people to constantly put out that many drones, in every system on a particular node, which might, in fact cause lag for people jumping in.

Consider this:
If you put 200 drones on a single gate in one system, that's probably not going to hit the server that system is on too hard = no noticiable lag.

But if CCP says - you can put 100 drones on a gate. Now you put 100 drones on every gate in every system you're watching, which could cause terrible lag, depending on the node those systems are on. But, you're within the limit CCP gave, even though you are in reality causing an issue.

People will do what they're allowed. If CCP allows 100 drones per gate (or any fixed number) you can bet people will do that everywhere and cry "We're just following your rules!!" when CCP starts handing out warnings for lagging out the nodes.

De'Veldrin's Corollary (to Malcanis' Law): Any idea that seeks to limit the ability of a large nullsec bloc to do something in the name of allowing more small groups into sov null will inevitably make it that much harder for small groups to enter sov null.

I run the Gondista gate a lot, last year those guys were putting out drones and debris. I never got caught in it, and I never noticed any lag. They had 50-75 maybe 100 objects out floating around for a week or two.

So I would say 50-75 isn't too many. Seems like there is a thread somewhere about this already, I forget what the result was.

I bet you wont get banned for 100-200 either. Ive been through gates with that much crap up in Gallente FW space, got blown up on one, but I didn't notice any lag.
