Sound not working in Eve?

Hi, I have recently reinstalled Eve on my computer and I am not able to get the sound to work. This is the exact same machine that I had used to play it before, with the same OS (windows 7 64bit)etc.

All other windows programs run sound just fine. I have the 'enable sound' box checked in the game, all the volume bars are at max (environment, master, voice etc.). I have checked the volume mixer while eve is running, and the program does not appear to be showing up.

Any help would be much appreciated. I have had a petition up for days now, but it appears that it is just being ignored. It's pretty hard to run missions without the sound notification that warns for low shields, not to mention somewhat dull without sound in general.

Anyhow, any ideas?
