FW Newbie - Questions

I've jumped onto the Gallente Militia corp with an alt and just had a few questions about how the whole thing works, and my understanding of it so far.

1) If there's a blue system with low contested %, there's probably not much to do there?
2) If there's a blue system with a high contested %, I can go to the Plexes there, and will find friendly NPCs and quite probably hostile FW players. If I sit on the Plex bunker, the contested % goes back down? And there's no direct LP payout apart from player ship kills.
3) I can go to red systems. Beacons show Plexes that someone already scanned, or I can use a system scanner to find more. The Plexes are gated as follows. Minor(T1 and faction frigates) Small(frigates and dessies) Medium(cruisers) Large(BCs) Unrestricted(no acceleration gate). Bigger plex, more LP. Chance of encountering hostile FW doing defensive plexing.
4) FW missions. Do these affect system contestedness(sp?) in any way or is it just another way to earn LP?

1 and 2) You get an LP reward for defensive plexing, but it's not as high as for offensive. Also the LP reward decreases as the contested level of the system decreases, so deplexing a highly contested system rewards you more.

3) Looks about right

4) FW missions are purely an LP thing, they don't change the system contested level at all.

I think the defensive plexing formula is the % the system is contested (let's say 64%) times 75% of the plexes offensive value. So if you're at teir 2, which would get you normal LP rewards, and finish a defensive Novice (which would pay out 10000 offensively) you will receive (0.75 x 10000 x 0.64)

EDIT: It's either 50% or 75% off the top, I can't remember exactly.

2nd EDIT: It's 75%. LP Gain = Base value of plex * (Contested percentage of the system/100) * 0.75

Two important things to know about FW:
1) Expect to get jumped by neutrals helping an opposing faction member in a fight.
2) LP from offensive plexing is crazy addictive. P

Get an OGB alt to do two things: watch the entry gates on plexes to warn you about someone showing up (if you're farming for LP and not willing to fight), and to boost you during fights. I've given up on doing the "honorable" thing and decided to use the broken system to my advantage.

Defensive LP Gain = min(0.75, Current Contested Percentage)* Tier Value*Base Value of Plex .

Thanks for all the answers so far. The LP farming is indeed quite addictive. Lots of running but also quite a few fights.
