I was just reading up on the dev blog on the skill changes and for the most part it was very informative. However one part did catch my eye. They are changing the requirement for assault ships to include Energy grid upgrades 5.

As of right now i only have this to a 4 so my questions is if I will automatically get it raised to 5? since "If you could fly it before you will be able to still do so".

I would rather train it to 5 now, then suddenly find myself unable to fly my assault ship.

I hope someone is better at sussing out the meaning in the devblogs then me and can give me a quick answer.

From reading the comments to the dev blog, I think they will allow you to keep flying the ship if you can do so now. You will just not be able to train it any higher (in your case from lvl 4 to 5) until you get all the new prereqs caught up.

No, because Energy Grid Upgrades 5 isn't a requirement to fly the ship. It's a requirement for the skill "Heavy Assault Ship"

If you've injected and trained the skill, you'll still be able to fly the ship, despite missing a pre-req of the skill. If you haven't injected the skill, you'll additionally need Energy Grid Upgrades V to do so.

Same with the mining barge skill that will be gaining Mining frigate as a pre-req.

From the dev blog (emphasis mine):
Quote:
Except for the Navy Battleships, Destroyers and Battlecruisers (whose reimbursement is detailed in the next part) all the affected ships will still be flyable even after the change with no fancy reimbursement, provided you can fly them on Tranquility right now. This works because once a particular skill is trained, the system doesn’t care about sub-requirements anymore.

So if I already have the prereqs for the Freighter skill, I should probably go ahead and buy the skill and train Freighter I now? Not that I wouldn't get Advanced Starship Command V soonish, but I would like to be able to jump in a freighter even with IV (V is a pretty long train, if I recall).
