Hello,

I recently had to block someone for being unpleasant in corp chat (I'm in an NPC corp).

An hour or so later, people in the corp were still responding to his unpleasantness and I told them just to block this person.

A few minutes later I received the following message:

Quote:
From: Owain GIyndwr
Sent: 2013.02.03 05:34

did you know dissing some one from behind the block as you are now doing is an exploit and you can get a months game time ban for doing it.

fly safe have fun

Is this true? Am I exploiting by participating in a conversation in which I have one of the participants blocked? Could I be banned for a month?

I attempted to respond asking for a source for this claim, a forum post or excerpt from the EULA, but he had a spam protection fee set to 1 million ISK and I did not want to pay that.

Thanks

Heh, nice tearmail. As far as I know that's nowhere near a EULA violation. P

If you get stuff like that it means you're doing it right. Only messages from GMs count as ban warnings and they don't get involved in player issues unless something is against the EULA...don't use racial slurs, don't threaten real life harm, don't link to naked transvestite pictures, etc...well the website thing you can get away with sometimes and it's worth the warning.

Why block? I like to hear what's being said so I can tactfully introduce a subtle troll and get the rage flowing Bear

He was complaining about all the 'noob questions' that people ask... again NPC corp.

People would respond to the questions and he would complain that the answer wasn't technically correct.

He would ridicule the person who even asked the question.

Eventually everyone just started ignoring him, but he kept spamming the chat anyways, so ultimately I decided to block him. Not for any particular reason other than to increase my enjoyment of the game. It was quite distracting. It's been much better since, until that mail got me a little worried.

Thanks for the info!

To be honest i have never heard anyone getting banned or even warned for something like that and i would be suprised if CCP would interact. You exspressed your opinion about someone, and if the person(s) dident like it..well they should try to think about why you dont like them instead.

Most likely its the person alt/friend/whatever that saw that you were a young player and wanted to try and abuse that and give you a scare. However if you had used his name in this thread it might have gotten some reactions from CCP.. some odd rules around that if i remember correctly but as long as you dont use someone name (real name or ingame name) and word it like you did.. well basically you can say whatever you want about the person as long as its constructive and not just a wall of text containing nothing but name calling and swear words.

The two relevant "rules" documents that you need to keep in mind for legal actions in-game are:

To my knowledge, and from skimming the two documents, talking about someone you have blocked is perfectly fine. However, I (or any other ISD) do not set or enforce rules, so to be 100% safe, you should submit a question petition so a GM can give you an official answer.

Welcome to Eve, and good luck!

This.

And for future reference, the only warnings in EVE that really matter are those that are sent to you by someone from CCP (aka a GM)

EDIT:

And of course you should listen to ISD members. They are an extension of CCP, ISD monitor the forums for instance and also the (rookie) help channel.

OP, you have to realise that many players are moronic, inept retards. And many of them whine, cry and send hatemail about how they have a friend in x alliance who will kick your butt, or they have a friend who's a GM who will do the same etc etc etc. Be they new players or having played since 2003, they're still idiots.

as far as i see you have done nothing wrong, at all and this guy who mailed you is talking out his ass, also he clearly does not know what an exploit is and is just trying to scare you.
