unscannable cargoholds? what have i missed in the last patch?! this is the first i hear about this

When Retribution came out, Orcas lost the unscannable, undroppable cargo hold. Instead that feature was added to Blockade Runners:

It is now possible to scan all transported items in a ship with a cargo scanner, including items in the fleet hangar, the ship maintenance bay, the drone bay, and various specialized holds.

Not flying afk in the first place?

As the saying goes, if you fly afk, you die afk. Have fun making the rest of your journey in your pod and wondering where your ship went.

No, YOU learn to read, and learn to be nicer. You asked for suggestions, I gave them. I then helpfully pointed out that if you fly afk, you will DIE afk, and that you won't BE ganked if you're careful.

You gave suggestions that have nothing to do with what I've asked for. I asked for speed. You replied with material containing phrases such as "tanked to hell", and suggesting an Orca, indiciting your complete and utter inability to read my original post which made it perfectly clear what I'm after.

Also, you're perpetuating the "badass piwate" myth that if you fly AFK in high-sec then you will get ganked. I've flown AFK a lot in high-sec, over the last several years, without that happening to me. The fact is, flying AFK in high-sec is extremely safe.

Please go away!

WTB gankers for this man

This one's a bit over the edge guys.

Locked for breaking... well, pretty much all the rules.

I think Sigil is the best choice for what you want ...

I completely forgot about those changes ... AFK times for my orca are gone, saved by the forums .... Thx guys ... =D

I think you missed the part where he stated he doesn't haul anything valuable while AFK.

If high-sec afk'ing Is so safe why have you made a thread asking for alternatives to a BR as its likely to get ganked?

Make your mind up.

Because as BR are now unscanable, pirates may shoot it to play lottery. When they (can) know what there is in your cargo, they don't need to play lottery.

Salpad is several levels of correct, you didn't say anything relevant just herpaderpaderp.

OP: Couple people posted sigil, that's what I use too.

There's nothing worse than an EVE player, generally considered to be top of the food chain in the MMO world, that cannot smacktalk with wit and coherency.

As said before, it really is a matter of simply making sure that the perceived effort to gank you is greater than the perceived value of your cargo/fittings/fun factor of ganking.

Through research you can determine the first variable based on your max ehp and the number and cost of common hisec ganking ships it would take to defeat that ehp before concord would arrive in a .5 system. The second variable is much harder since the hypothetical aggressor can't determine the value of your cargo so it's up to his/her feeling/past experience/motivations. Since there's no way to determine that variable you are left to assume worst case scenario.

Therefore pick the ship that has the minimum cargo capacity you need with a tank large enough to cause gankers to have to spend at least half of the value of your cargo and fittings on destroying you before concord can arrive in a .5 system. If there's more than one option, pick the one with a faster sublight speed (has a bigger effect on travel time than ftl). I would point to specific ships only if we truly knew the value of your cargo, which I recommend against posting here.

Outside of that... You're spending an undetermined amount of unrealized isk to travel afk. You will only determine if its worth it after you have already lost a ship.

Consider this, try fitting a Caldari cruiser for cargo capacity ie; rigs, T-1 Meta 4 or 3 cargo expanders (go cheap), and shield tank it many cruisers can get upwards of 2500+ m3 cargo capacity and offer better speed then haulers and less conspicuous.

Beyond that for valuable cargo just contract to a professional hauling corp and let the risk be theirs to take.

The real answer, as others have pointed out is "don't fly AFK".

The "if you really insist" answer is to grab a T1 hauler and just tank it enough that it can't be easily alpha'd. It works out about the same as the T2 hauler if you're AFK, honestly.

Unless I misread, he wants a midground afk hauler for hauling cargo that's not so highly valued that it needs a freighter, but not so small it can fit in an inty. He also implied that he doesn't really want to give up much in terms of speed since he has to travel through 80 systems to get everything done. Since value is a completely subjective term, and his speed and capacity requirements are unclear, it's hard to give a good answer. A drake with cargo expanders might fit the bill, or a cruiser, or a t1 hauler, or.... the list goes on.

Personally, if I were to afk haul low value cargo, I'd use an unrigged t1 hauler. I might consider fitting it with something if I needed more cargo or if the value started to get above 40m or so.

Anyone who post a 'How can I do XXX better while AFK?' thread should immediately get a perminent suspect flag just to **** them off!

AFK is the main problem with eve.

Stop AFK'ing and be active!

That is the Way, the Tao.

Balance is everything.

I think you missed the part where he stated he doesn't haul anything valuable while AFK.

And when he does haul something valuable he'll find that his sweeping statement is incorrect.

It's too much hassle to make statements carefully just to appease people who refuse to read in context.

Sorry, I clearly should have added "But he doesn't carry something worth ganking and that's why he thinks its very safe" for the people who didn't get my original statement
