Freighter Ganks in Low Sec

So I was browsing Eve-Kill tonight and I checked out the recent 5b+ kills, and I noticed a bunch of jump freighter kills occurring in the same couple of lowsec systems. I'm a jump freighter pilot, and I have to wonder: just how are these kills happening? I'd like to protect my investment, and I feel like there's something I don't know...

Are people just stupid with their ships?
Are these ganks only happening in kick-out stations?
Are the killers organizing some sort of bump tactic to get undocking freighters off the undock?
Are they getting blapped on the undock somehow and are just too stupid to dock up fast enough?

Whenever I'm piloting, I always measure my cyno distance with the tactical overlay, I always dock up immediately upon landing, I never dock in stations with small docking radii, and I always warp to the outbound high sec gate at 0. What are these people doing wrong? Any insight would be appreciated. I have a feeling the answer is going to be "people are just stupid", but you'd think that, given the time investment it takes to pilot and afford a jump freighter, these people would care enough to understand the mechanics behind what they're doing so they don't lose it.

all your above. Some people specialize in freighter ganking and make contracts just to lure greedy people into bad situations :) if it is a system it happens alot its probably a bad station with bait contracts.
Also some people forget to turn off "take shortest route, ignore security status" if they already have their low warning off they blindly jump and are probably in a new clone by the time they are back from afk...Ive been in on a few of those over the years.
And then some are just chalked up to sheer stupidity or flying under the influence of alcohol (had a few of those incidents myself :)

Someone is in a null sec corp that is at war in high sec, uses their JF to get to low sec and switches to normal freighter in 3rd party corp to move through high sec. Gets ganked coming or going to hook back up with JF still in low sec station.

Null sec alliance needs to move large items to nullsec that can't be moved in JF (some Ihub upgrades for example). They need to be titan bridged in, get ganked on gate coming in because they didn't have gate covered.

But yes, it's usually lazy people who think they won't get caught or idiots who didn't know where they were/what combats rules are.

Sometimes it is people killing blues.

These ones always make me laugh. Who doesn't have holder alliances for industrial alts? Nobody wants Noctises and Iterons on their killboards, let alone JFs and freighters.

But what reason is there to cyno onto a gate, even if you're being dropped in?

Jumping to a "friendly" cyno without eyes is literally asking to be bent over by a gank fleet. Well deserved.

Thanks for the replies. Anyone else have some ideas?

Null Sec station require standings and no one wants to spend time updating their blue list for everyone's alt hauling operation.

Hi

Your general posting seems to indicate you shouldn't be posting in this thread. I have quoted the important part for you:

If you don't know what Charlotte is talking about, I can only assume your scrub alliance hasn't gotten to this point yet.

That wasn't very nice.

The pilot in question bumped the jump freighters out of docking range with a machariel, and yes, it was a kickout station.

Several patches ago they changed the docking radius of all stations for capital ships.... There's no such thing as a kickout station to a JF... The docking radius of a station is so much larger for capital ships than a regular ships, that even if it's a kickout for BS's, it is not for a JF, and you should be able to immediately redock...

However, I have heard reports of pilots not being able to redock despite being "at zero" on the station...

Its mostly due to people being ******** about cyno placement, to be honest.

Also \o/ I'm on a top 5 kill :3

We use special voodoo that makes them unable to control their ship. They slowly drift into space where they suddenly appear in fleet and we are able to warp to them

My one toon got podded at 0 on a station because I wasn't close enough to dock after my dessie was alpha'ed by an insta-lock nado. Happens more often than people think.

Really wish CCP would fix that crap. Being 0 on a station should = insta dock, not that "being towed into docking range" bs. I mean really, how do you get closer than 0m to something?
