Carrier DPS

Question on DPS from carriers and what it takes to put a dent in one, In my travels I stumbled upon a carrier doing a spawn site although I wasn't gonna attack I got attacked and nearly bought it luckily I wasn't scramble but needless to say I fired back while running away but it didn't even seem to even dent it's shields and my shields on my Tengu went down seemed like few secons even though it was well tanked with resist.

Guess my question is what kind of DPS does it take to even put a dent in the damn thing?

And my tengu has...400+ DPS with T-2 furys.

To kill a carrier in a reasonable amount of time, you're looking at 2000+ dps and/or massive neuting to kill their active tank.

If they triage, you'll need massive neuts or more like 5000+ dps.

Or, you know, a couple moros and 2 minutes.

They realy don;t do that much dps, roughly 1000 ish or the equivalent of a decent battleship. In terms of taking them down if they aren't triaged a handfull of bs or tier 3 bc's can chew them pretty easily. Or one dread.

As stated above... a properly fitted and skilled carrier can do about the same damage as a gank-fit battleship (~1000 DPS). Nothing especially frightening.

However...

- fighters are fairly ineffective against ships smaller than a cruiser. BUT... they can follow an enemy anywhere within a system and continue attacking him/her so long as they remain in the system. Carriers must be careful though as they won't be able to see if a fighter is taking damage if they are off-grid.

- a carrier can carry an almost infinite supply of spare "normal" drones to use against enemies.

- when in triage mode, a carrier cannot field fighters or drones of any kind... but can tank an average of about 10,000 damage per second for about 10 to 15 minutes..... provided that hostiles are not applying energy neutralizers and/or the carrier is not using other modules.

- a carrier's true strength lies in being able to provide logsitical and remote repair support.
--- a carrier can carry 1 million m3 worth of fully fitted ships (with ammunition) within its maintenance bay (about 2 battleships worth) and eject them into space for pilots that have lost their ships.
--- any ship can refit itself when within 2500m of a carrier... allowing you to resupply and/or turn your gank ship into a brick.
--- a carrier can generally equip between 3 to 4 remote repair modules (armor or shields) which can repair about 1500 hp every 5 seconds... double that while in triage mode.

normal fits do 800-1000 dps and fighters have really problems with cruiser and bellow.

gank fits can do 1200 with sentries but they are not that tanky as normal fits.

Depends on ur strategy ....

Fighter drones generally suck against cruiser sized targets. You are often better using sentries or heavy drones. Unless of course dual box or have a friend with both webs, and painters.

Not exactly. What that setup is designed to do is destroy the carrier's ability to repair incoming damage (by using the Bhaalgorn to destroy the capital's capacitor power).
And assuming that each battleship is "properly fit" (dealing about 700 to 900 DPS) it will still take a good while for 3 battleships to chew a carrier down.

Your cruiser does... what? 400 to 500 DPS? A carrier has about ~1 million effective hit points (assuming battle/triage fit).

If you're only tanking 10k damage in triage, you're doing something very wrong.

Not really, your just doing it without drugs, boosts and only 4s for skills....it happens. Well I guess that is doing something wrong Blink

Your average triage thanatos tanks 10k dps stable without neuts applied. A lightly pimped archon tanks up to 20k dps. To kill one fast you neeed 30k dps with neuts or a bunch of supers/dreads.
