Cyno Mechanic Idea. A tactical option.

That is a highly unexpected statement coming from someone in Unclaimed.

The context might help it make sense. I was speaking about how cloaked vessels are often assumed to be ready to cyno in attack vessels by hot drop.
As a result, a lot of possible PvP encounters seem to be avoided since the threat level effectively is overwhelming to many pilots.

I left out that part of the reasoning in the source post, based on the theory it was self evident. I hope people who were not thinking along those lines will please accept my apologies for being confusing.


It's not just the cloaked vessels either, to be honest. The hot drop mechanic helps win fights, but it cuts the number of "gudfites" because people very rapidly learn who the hot droppers are and dock/POS/cloak up at the first sign of them. I'm not saying it's not a valid mechanic, but why should I risk my ship when I know I'm just going to get dropped on by 10 or 12 guys the second I'm engaged? We're all out looking to win fights, not hand wins to our opponents.



Cause--->Effect = Too much easy hot drop----->kills hot drop fun by decreasing the number of possible kills

*Avoid pvp when you have no chance of fighting back is "normal"

*Search for easy to kill and juicy targets that can't shoot back or handle the firepower is also "normal"


Current mechanics make it so the only way to counter hotdrops are: the counter hotdrop - dock when cloaky is in system - spot hot drop cynos and spread info on intell chans
This will obviously result in less pvp not because players don't want to fight but because they don't want to be just a victim.

Counter hotdrop requires somewhat "heavy" organization and skilled pilots that have enough time to eventually wait for hours before they can achieve their goal, extremely hard to achieve for many reasons including intell channels spies.

Dock/kiss the POS/logofski creates frustration and waste of time for both hotdropper and the player acting so, this single point should be enough to figure the mechanic as a whole is not satisfying.

Spot cyno alts etc also leads to point above.

I can already wait for some after this comment to say "remove local will solve this", well not really and can easily say, not at all and will only create even more defensive strategies that leave no place at all for current hot drop gangs size, which is a normal reaction from defender too, but in the end all it matters is that this leads to even less pvp.

This idea is about the most logical I am aware of.

Current game play has lowered the bar on cyno use to noob ships for logistics, and hot dropping for anything else.

We can raise the bar with intelligent play using the OP.
