~~HBC'S First Annual POD Race~~

What is it?

A race around New Eden's greatest landmarks, simple as that. Or, it would be, if there weren't other capsuleers and various obstacles in your path. Think you can survive the dangers of nullsec? Navigate a hazardous arrangement of smartbombing battleships? The challenge is great, the potential for skill high, and the reward substantial...

So how does it work?

Any pilot interested may fly one of the following ship types:

  • Zephyr (25 million isk entry fee, 100% Payout)
  • Apotheosis (20 million isk entry fee, 75% Payout)
  • Echelon (20 million isk entry fee, 75% Payout)
  • Standard Shuttle (10 million isk entry fee, 50% Payout)

No other ship types are allowed to participants. Each ship has its' own payoff and entry fee, so you'll have to decide if the risk of a limited edition ship is worth the payoff.

Obviously, there's no regulation on Navigation skills, but they're not the only useful group. Defensive skills might afford easier paths and better escapes, and probing skills might even reward you with a wormhole or two to cut vast legs of the journey down. Either way, you'll need to collect tokens along the way to prove that you've made it everywhere.

There's no limit to the metagaming either. Perhaps you could have your friends anchor bubbles behind you, or maybe even just outright destroy the other racers. In the end, only the start, waypoint, and end systems are monitored and ruled - the rest of New Eden is fair game.

A note on implants: While is it recommended that you fly a clone you can afford to lose, implants will not be checked. Please make sure to have an updated clone before undocking!

Okay, but what's the reward?

The ISK prizes are as follows:

  1. GRAND PRIZE - 55% of the Entry Pool (Minimum amount paid out is 1 PLEX)
  2. 2nd Place - 15 % of the Entry Pool (Minimum amount paid out is 150mil)
  3. 3rd Place - 5% of the Entry Pool (Minimum amount paid out is 50 mil)

The more participants, the bigger the prize pool will be, and the more isk that will be on the line. When registration closes, I will edit this post with the actual ISK values so people know exactly how much they're racing for. If it turns out we get a truly substantial prize pool, I'll bring in a 3rd party just to alleviate any concerns regarding the payout. REMEMBER - Your ship type affects your payout!

Outside of the isk reward, this is the perfect opportunity for you newer players and those who have never even seen outside of HighSec to explore the dangers and rewards of Nullsec! For those of you that have been around New Eden awhile longer, this is your chance to get out and see some of the more prolific locations, including my personal favorite system: T-IPZB and it's Shattered Planet.

For those of you not participating in the race, there's even a betting pool! See below.

How will the event be run?

A week before the event starts, I will edit this post with all the necessary details, including:

  • The start/end system
  • Locations to visit, along with their obstacles
  • Items to collect from said locations

Although I am still working it out with the various powers that be, TEST's betting emporium will be opened up to provide Horse-Race style betting on racers. We will also provide live commentary via TEST Radio, possibly even TEST TV.

How do I enter?

Fill out your response here , then ensure you send the appropriate entry fee. For example, if I wanted to fly a Zephyr, I would send 25 million isk to Merisee ingame with the reason "POD Racing - Merisee - Zephyr"

Entry is open from now until February 23rd

Questions? Comments? Concerns?

FAQ'S:
Q: If your ship gets blown up, and you have a spare, can you continue the race in the back-up?
A: Yes, but you still have to have the all the necessary items when passing the finish line

Q: Why not actual pods?
A: No cargo space and because they instawarp.
