Hello people.

New to Eve Online and having fun. I want to thank the Devs and the other people that made this a cool game. I am still learning and have much exploreing to do but I wanted to drop by and say thanks. Also, I wanted to thank the guy who made the Youtube movies of Clear Sky. Very well done and fun to watch. Just wish there were more. Thats it. Happy hunting! :)

I give it 5 months tops.

Eitherway heres some advice

Dont trust anyone, not even your alts
If what you are doing seems like fun, you likely have a mental illness
If you want to get in with the big boys, compliment and brown nose as much as possible while spamming generic memes
Say no to drugs http://zkillboard.com/detail/28126914/

People in the forums are not friendly, but I feel that the advice above is relevant.

Friendliness goes up exponentially when

A) In the New player forum
B) Admitting to some ignorance and thus displaying some humility
C) Showing how you took steps to help yourself before whining at us
D) Any combo of the above

Those four points will be true for every gaming forum I've ever been on, but EVE in general is unfriendly, so you need to improve your odds.
Also, something that I learnt was that in EVE you need groups more than any other MMO.

I disagree with B). Why should someone dispaly humility? It's a new game to them. I've been playing for three years, and I know a little bit about maybe 40% of the game. There isn't any reason to bow down to the 'forum gurus' who probably know less about the game than you do.

Hi Maximillon Tivianne,

Welcome to Eve, may you enjoy it and keep your positive demeanor for a very long time.

Despite the dismal reception posted by others, it's good to see a new player excited about the game and having fun. Don't let the negative forum posters get you down. Just something to add - Evelopedia is a good source of information.

Because it makes you look like a jackass that's not worth helping. Be humble about asking for help. Don't make yourself out to be totally helpless and weak either.

See how the guy on the top did so much better? Even most of the "super ebil community" in EVE will help out guy on the top. We know, EVE is "Hard (TM)", it' has a learning cliff we once climbed too and that's why you'll find that many people tend to pop into our new player forums and proclaim things like "wow, this is one of the most helpful communities I've ever seen, we never got help like this in WoW".

I implore you to not make the same mistake as I did in assuming Big = Better....

I advise you find a small tight knit group, active ad helpful. Plenty out there looking for good pilots to contribute and help them grow. Their CEOs have yet to be bitten by the Epeen bug and they don't have egos to stroke. Noobs like us tend to shoot straight for the big boys because we assume they have what we need when in reality it is cold, lonely and nothing but a brown nose fest. It's basically thousands of members competing to see who can suck-butt the hardest. People will step all over you just to get brownie points with folks they see as somewhat influential in the Alliance.

Repeat my mistake if you wish, and you'll end up wasting 2-3 months of your life in some (snip) filled Alliance as I did.

This was precisely what I meant above. +1.

Because of the learning curve - which I early on realised is incredibly hard to master on your own - you need help from somewhere, and if that help is to be from another person then it's somewhat important to be liked (Or at least not disliked).
It's pretty simple psychology, that you're more willing to help if shown respect due to your knowledge.

The new player doesn't necessarily have to be humble in every aspect, but it will improve your chances when asking for help. "Hey, I got this mission in lowsec so I went out there and these guys shot me on the gate. How can I see if there are badguys on the other side of the gate next time?" is vastly different from "These jackasses lowsec scamming scum shot me on the gate and they're all cheating and using wallhacks to see if I am there. How can I kill them all next time?"
Although this might be a not-so-good example, due to the animosity that is sometimes held against lowsec people.

agree with Alphea, find a good corp and they will help you learn the game. Best move I did was to join a corp straight away, they had assets I could use and the knowledge to help me and show me the fun side of the game. Corp mission nights, low sec roams, mining ops whilst bsing on comms.
it is frustrating at times but the emergent side makes up for it when you get the stories like the epic battle on the
weekend.
Its a cold hard universe, everyone is out to get you, but damn its fun

Go have fun and lose some ships. Once you get over that, you will have loads of fun. Most players have a mental block because they fear ship loss. Dont let it happen to you..or else youll end up a highsec zombie teathered to a .9 system for fear of the scary people.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?
