I saw people talking about their DPS, how do you see your DPS?

in the ship fitting screen you can see int he top right hand side a turret, missile and drone icon and next to them it calculates your rough DPS.

- Undock and hover the mouse over a gun (or group).
- Import your fit in EFT.

Thanks again. I'll get the hang of all the acronyms sooner or later. (probably in time for the next expansion)

EFT and pyfa (http://www.evefit.org/static/pyfa#faq ) are both handy tools for playing with fits, without actually spending any isk.

Take it all with a grain of salt, as there are situational modifiers (range, traversal and so on) but still useful.

This. There is no real time damage meter for eve, and the numbers people give are just theoretical, based on the potential of their fit. You won't ever achieve it unless you're shooting a stationary structure with no resists.

Still useful tools though.

Not to forget that a lot of numbers people give you are based on max skills.

As the only fair way to compare different fits in stats is with equal skills.

EFT and pyfa are good tools, because you can play all day and figure out how fittings work, without having to spend ISK for the ships and modules. I always set up scenarios in EFT:

- What if I fit short-range guns, and a propulsion (MWD or afterburner)? Can I fit all the weapons? What's the damage (approximate) what's the range? What if I use faction ammo? etc.

- What if I fit long-range guns? etc. What if I fit a passive shield instead of an armor tank? etc.

You can learn a bit about the ship systems and what the limits are. You won't learn much about PVP situations and what to do when you're ganked, but you can learn why people fit their ships the way they do.
