Is CONCORD 'special'?

Trying to get faction up for trade and industry purposes, and have a choice of a couple of stations to base out of. Was looking to grind out distribution missions for a few days to get the taxes and whatnot down. Trying to decide what corp to mission for to base out of. One of the stations, which I'm a bit partial to the location of, is a CONCORD starbase.

Does CONCORD behave the same, standingswise, as any other corp? is it slower to gain faction with than a smaller corp, does it have some odd behavior or anything that might make it a bad or good choice?

CONCORD is indeed very different; your sec status is your CONCORD standing. And it's very, very hard to get over 5.0. In fact, I think it's currently impossible due to a misbehaving cosmos agent, but that might have been fixed while I wasn't paying any attention.

I'm guessing 5.0 isn't good enough standings to really be worthwhile, compared to other stations?

Not really. 6.67 is needed for perfect refining. 5.0 is enough to make a difference on broker's fees I suppose (full formula here) but that's about it. Obviously you'll never get to 8.0 for jump clones at any rate.

My sec status is currently -6.0
My Concord standings are still above -2.0

CONCORD Standings is capped at 5.0 from NPC bounties gain.
There is a COSMOS agent (maybe more than one I forget) which you can use ONCE to get this upto 5.60

CCP have talked about allowing 10.0 again with the new ideas that come from crimewatch, where or not this will be allowed we don't know yet.
