So, there is a Jovian battlecruiser that is coming out, that I have noticed. (Assuming that Fozzie is not just punking all of us.) A few questions:

Will the Live Events team be involved in the release of this ship? If no, will there be additional fiction to explain how capsuleers got their hand on a Jove ship?
The bonuses and ship attributes in general seem to be a bit low for what I would expect from a Jove BC. Is this going to be some demo model for capsuleers with better ships (maybe Tech IV) being released later? (Similar to the export of Soviet tanks-most of the good stuff was stripped out)
If there is going to be some live events regarding this, what would be the best way for players, corps and alliances to get involved?

Thanks in advance,
Alizabeth, staff reporter, themittani.com

It's a Society of Conscious Thought ship, just like the Apotheosis we received at EVE's fifth anniversary. It's about as "jovian" as Angel ships are.

I'm presuming it'll be gifted by the SoCT like before.

SoCT have their own line of ships which aren't actually Jovian, but do share some of their technologies and some of their aesthetics.

The bonuses and attributes are all down to Game Design, they decide what attributes a ship has for balance reasons and will keep things within the scope of what's acceptable and balanced for release into the game. This is something that has to be managed very carefully Smile

In terms of how they look, I'm a huge fan of the SoCT ships with regards to aesthetic design. They look awesome Cool

The Gnosis isn't a Jovian battlecruiser, just the same as angel cartel ships aren't Jovian. There are links in backstory with regards to shared technologies, and they share some similar visual traits with Jovian tech.

SoCT however are only very loosely tied with the Jove, having been founded by a Jovian called Ior Labron.

In terms of Live Events, you actually raise a pretty awesome point. I'll talk with Abraxas and Gnauton next week and maybe myself and Eterne can rustle something up for players to get involved with depending on whether and when the Gnosis might make it into the game Smile.

Myself and the rest of the EVE Illuminati are always open to player ideas regarding Live Events, and we'd love to hear ideas that players have for them Big smile

[Resisting the urge to make a joke about a live even that leaves me queen of the cluster.]

I had forgotten about the SoCT. I think the last time I messed with them was the Sister's arc, way back when I was a newb.

I can appreciate Game Design's fine line, making it useful without making it mandatory. If the CFC comes out with a Gnosis doctrine, I will be upset. That means they are too good. However, Fozzie has been doing a great job with ships thus far, so don't really think there will be a problem. (Fozzie, I am your number one fangirl!)

As for the live events: I hope to see one. I would like this battlecruiser not to just show up in my hanger with a short article on the login screen: SoCT accidentally misplaced a decimal point and ordered a million too many, so we're giving it away. If the ship winds up being useful, I'd like to see it not just be a one off. Stuff like that just gets left in hangers, which is silly for the game. Get some BPOs seeded (I would say through the SoCT LP store, but they don't have agents, much less an LP store.)

....so when are we getting pirate boats that have minmatar+caldari bonuses and gallente+amarr bonuses? I am tired of getting shafted for training minmatar+caldari instead of minmatar+gallente for the 6 pirate ships they get.

Like Alizabeth says, I hope it's not a 1 time candy, because in that case all of them will inmediately go to the dust-collecting corner of the hangars, in hope of everybody else blowing theirs up.

I would just like to assuage any fears and confirm that the Gnosis being given out won't be tied to any Live Events. While I will never say never, the Live Events team currently has no plans to give out special items with actual gameplay impact through Live Events.

As for Minmatar/Caldari and Gallente/Amarr bonused pirate-faction ships, we'd need factions where those combos would fit thematically first. And no, Equilibrium of Mankind doesn't fit Gallente/Amarr.

I was more hoping there would be a live even around the release, explaining the way/reason the Gnosis was acquired by capsuleers. Big smile

As for the EoM, Amarr ships, uses hybrids; are you sure it's not Amarr/Gallente?

Those who're brave enough to fly them, still will P

With regards to Live Events surrounding this, a few ideas are spinning around in my head now and one of the key things I kept in mind when finalizing the Live Events outline for the first half of the year was the ability to add sub arcs that spring up due to player interaction and interference with the main storyline.

It's a tight fit, and it would have to also fit well with the context of what's going to be going on over the next few months, but I'll keep it in mind. Of course, if you want to talk about Live Events relating to this, then please feel free to kick off a thread on the Live Events forum :)

While as Eterne said, we don't have any plans to give out items specifically as a part of Live Events, creating events to explain why items that are going to be released are handed out to capsuleers isn't a bad idea at all.

Maybe if I can convince Eterne to let his hood down (I honestly don't know if he has hair under there to let down), we'll pull something together if it makes sense in terms of storyline.

While EoM ships do infact use hybrids, those are usually the railgun types. Moreover, all of EoM ships are distinctly shield-tanked (hint hint).

update: I also remember a developer's response about EoM: they are not considered for their own pod-cleared ship line as they are not a major pirate faction, but that may change at some point *fingers crossed*

I would argue that the EoM does sort of qualify, as they use Amarr hulls with hybrid weapons. The shields do throw things off a bit though. As for Caldari/Minmatar mix, maybe Mordus? I could see mercs liking Caldari missiles and Minmatar speeds to quickly finish a job.

But you're the boss! I just want to see more ship variety than the traditional "Big Four", even if it means grinding for some LP store in nullsec. I would have a sads if the Gnosis and the rumored pirate rookie ships were a one-time deal, but it would be fairly understandable.

mordu? thukker tribe?

just say mordus legion collaborated with minmatar engineering to modify their caldari boats for more speed orientation or something...

but the point is fairness in game, not lore, if lore is preventing the game from being fair, write more lore and make the ships O_o

I'm not sure how much I can insinuate here, but I would give favours to the CCP employee that put a Mach/Vindi equivalent ship that used torps/cruise into the game. 8 high slots, bonus to missile damage, decent speed, etc. The only thing for missile lovers like myself are the Guristas. And I hate drones. (says the carrier pilot, lol)

Well, according to the official lore Mordu's Legion are actually Intakis that sided with the caldari, so caldari/minn reqs don't make much sense to me.

What about that shiny new Thrasher for damn traitors glorious Nefantar tribe? P Should we expect Ammatar space to be consumed by Minmatar?

Also which dev we need to poke with stick to get 5-run BPC's for popular modules (BCS, EANM, Heat sinks etc) in LP stores for factions like Khanid or Ammatar?

EoM are railgun/shield tankers in Amarr hulls. They're basically Caldari ships with Amarr skins. They even use Kinetic missiles.

The Thukker Tribe already has ships in game, as the Thukker Mix is one of the T2 producing corps for the Minmatar.

Mordu's Legion would fit much better for Caldari/Gallente again, which we already have.

Ammatar ships would most likely make sense for more Amarr/Minmatar.

I think the biggest problem with Gallente/Amarr and Caldari/Minmatar are the overlap in skills there. Amarr and Gallente both utilize armor tanking and drones; Caldari and Minmatar both utilize shields and missiles. Minmatar/Caldari is actually more thematically capable of having something semi-unique done with them, with the idea of speed-tanky missile boats.

Though if we do get more pirate groups in the game (even if they're minor groups, like the EoM), I will lore-punch for them to be Gallente/Amarr and Caldari/Minmatar crosses.

It definitely makes the most sense, and it's something I'll also push hard for.

As a player I was always cross trained Gallente/Amarr because I preferred close range combat with a heavy tank. It'd be nice to see a set of ships that form a crossover between the facets of Gallente & Amarr.

I was Gallente/Amarr trained too.

I'm just, like, what is the combo we can make for them?

Neuts and drones and armor are already there in Amarr T2. Lasers and neuts and armor are Blood Raiders. The best would probably be boats with laser/drone bonuses, as I don't think there's anything like that currently.
