yeah, a bubble shield is simply impractical as others have mentioned. Also, with a bubble shield I believe that there would be weak points. I figure the best way to get through the shield is to strike it at the point furthest from the ship. the closer to the ship the shield wall is the better the generators can maintain it.

Just like with Star Trek, I believe EVE needs to allow for some form over function. Besides, we're all sitting here debating the scientific practicality of a technology which does not exist. Who's to say which is a better design? I'm just telling you what I think would look the best!

There is a good chance we will get something like that, when the next graphical improvement cycle hits the game. Last fanfest they showed some graphical improvement plans they had and included this picture, which clearly shows bubble shields.

i remember seeing that from the fanfest feeds, i also loved the shot of the hull crumpling and burning as it took armour and then hull damage :-P

EVE used to have shields like that. There were changed into the "skin hugging" effects they are now for performance reasons (if I recall correctly... I may be wrong).

It had to do with how weapon fire effects hit only specific points on the ship, looking weird as it goes through the shield bubble. Instead of fixing points of contact, CCP went the lazy route with the skin hugging shield effect. It's pathetic.

When it comes to visuals, ccp has almost always taken the lazy route :/

This game has not looked visually impressive (relative to the times) for a very long time.

I've always wanted to see Star Trek bubble-style shields in EVE. I've no doubt that the artists could do some amazing things with this!

I've embedded time offsets into these URLs so you can see a few examples. The second video in particular has several shield impacts that show the effect well.

Then you should've played a few years ago. Since they don't exist anymore, there is most likely a good reason for that (I don't see devs scrapping their work just 'for the lulz').
