Are you people really saying you would play AFK mining as a singleplayer game?

No i only AFK mine to make money and build ships to use when im actually playing.

Its more satisfying to take out a ship mined and built by you. Its also slightly more disapointing when said ship (like my first orca) gets exploded because of your stupidity

No, but its not a single player game. If you took far cry 3 as an example, an entirely different type of game, i still spent a large amount of time gathering the resources required to do the crafting. In old school C&C games, i would go all out and build a massive infrastructure to gather raw resources as quick as i possibly could.

I just think some people out there are naturally inclined to gather resources style play, where as others are more inclined to go all out on an offensive style. With people in the middle

In this game, due to its sandbox nature there is a vast number of both types, and as the other style is completely alien to the other we often get the more aggressive natured offensive style players complaining about how its wrong to do things the other way. You dont get many miners complaining that PVPs are just wrong!

Neither are right, neither are wrong and both need each other, offensive guys need them for new ships (or new ships to shoot at) and resource guys need them to make isk to produce resources faster and build bigger and better things)

"Gathering resources" is something completely different than AFK mining. Still, some people feel that AFK mining is the way to go and want to change this game in order to AFK mine more safely and profitably.

I dont agree with AFK mining 23/7 that's basically just botting, but without the program. Nor should it be made any safer than it is now. I posted in another topic about increasing the rats in belts (number and strength of, but keeping bounties same) to actually make it less safer. And if your not going to pay attention and fit your ship your liable to ganking, again something im happy with.

In short, AFK mining is fine to some extent, perhaps less people would do it afk if it was made more challenging, i certainly would.

Mining early on really is the quickest and easiest to get some cashflow. It is boring as all hell, but not many ways you can make 5-6m an hour on your 2nd day in this game.

I've only had my 2nd day once though ... so perhaps I'm wrong. But I do not think so.

Perhaps exploration sites could do it if you skilled up quick enough and were actually able to find some signatures to scan down that ended up being Radar sites ( usually 7-20m each it seems ).

Mining is a means to an end. I don't mine just for the sake of mining... I ether need isk or I want to build something. So yes as a means to an end I would be just as likley to mine in a purely solo game as I am to mine in eve.

However mining is much more fun in eve, what with the option of forming fleets and having to protect yourself from suicide attackers ect.

Mining in EVE, even when you mine solo serves a purpose. So assuming mining in the single player game would also serve a purpose, I sure would be mining.

this is a question mainly for miners - people who don't mine in a multiplayer one either i will take a no by default.

i'm just trying to work out if the miners WOULD mine in a single player game, and if not, why its different in EVE

well no, because in a single player game i'd open the console and give myself a bunch of cash and then get on with the other parts of the game.

afk income is the closest i can get to cheating in this game.

Hell no. If I wanted to play Farmville, I'd be on Facebook.

Of course, I don't mine now, either, so I suppose it's a moot point.

Tell someone you love them today, because life is short. But scream it at them in Esperanto, because life is also terrifying and confusing.

I might, if it was something I needed to do as part of accomplishing a greater goal within the parameters of the game. But not if mining was the game itself. Mining is dull; it's a means to an end.

Posting in another 'if you're not playing the sandbox game the same way i am, you're doing it wrong' thread.

With the increase in shiptoasting, the Report timer needs to be shortened.

I played Eve as a single player mining game for most of my first three years. It wasn't boring at all.

I had four accounts, so I used two Hulks, an Orca, and an Iteron V. There was always something to keep me busy.

Back in the 90s when i was a kid and was playing Nintendo.

Remember Tom and Jerry game? In this level, when you were spitting on this fire you gained points. So i weighted down "A-button" with ductape and went to school. When i came back, i had arround +20 lives

So basicaly, yes. i mined AFK in singleplayer game Idea

Once I spent 6 hours playing Minecraft single player strip mining a 25x25 square of land down to the bed rock just to see if it could be done.

Looking to talk on VOIP with other EVE players? Are you new and need help with EVE (welfare) or looking for advice? Looking for adversarial debate with angry people?
