Just read this on reddit several minutes before.
I like JJ Abrams, I have no problem with this.
But still...the rumor about Zack Snyder doing it...oh, boy- Zack Snyder would have been über-awesome.

edit: for those who don't know or don't care: Zack Snyder is the one who made Dawn of the Dead (Remake), 300, Watchmen and Suckerpunch.

I'd like to apologize for the poor quality of the post above and sincerely hope you didn't waste your time reading it. Yes, I do feel bad about it.

Isn't it against some primal law of the Sci-Fi universe to allow one man to helm both Star Trek and Star Wars?

Once "Sucker Punch" is seen, it unfortunately cannot be unseen.

"Watchmen" will stand as his masterpiece.

It will be interesting to see what the results and fallout eventually are for both franchises in a few years.

Edit: Finally SW has a director who is not a puppet hack (Irvin Kirschner, Richard Marquand) or lazy (George Lucas).

Sucker Punch is an awesome movie...maybe the darkest and most disturbing that Zack Snyder has ever made.
But it is very confusing with its multiple layered fantasy-worlds. I only got it about 3 days later, but then it hit me indeed like a sucker punch.

(Spoiler: Every single dream sequence was a fantasy world into which the girl fled as she was repeatedly r.aped (they called it "dancing", but the context makes it clear)
The bus driver at the end is the officer/mentor from the dream sequences.
Only possible explanation: the escape from the asylum was also a dream, none of the girls made it out alive- in case they even existed and were not all just imaginary friends of the main character. No happy end here, move on! )

The ability to destroy a franchise is insignificant next to the power of the The Farce.

Wheres Neill Blomkamp in any high profile discussion. How is that guy not in more big budget movies, I dont know, I think his darker, but more real take on things would have been an awesome way to do next starwars

The main character, or rather, the character which is central to the story; is Sweetpea, not Baby Doll.

There is another level you have forgotten about: the actual film opens showing the pulling back of a curtain on a theater stage, which is Zack saying 'This is something I am putting on a stage for all to see: the exploitation and personification of women, by men, in cinema and mainstream media. And the way I am going to get you to watch it is by luring you into it by using idolised and fetishistic trademarks which men place on women'.

The Sucker Punch is on the male audiences face.

Next time you watch a scantily-clad bleach-blonde wearing a school-girl outfit, and has make-up to make her cheeks extra rosy - and the 'girl' has an action slo-mo shot of her, birds eye, that in one movement looks down her top and then (as she performs a backflip) shows her underwear with legs spread - you gotta ask yourself the question "Is the director calling me a male chauvinist pig for paying for a ticket?".

I am looking forward to seeing Abbie Cornish (Sweet Pea) in Robocop next year as Ellen Murphy, because we never really got to meet that character the first time around (ironically we only saw her through dream sequences).

The question would have to come after the movie. during the movie and specifically during that scene all your mind would comprehend is boobs.

Now that the 12 year old above me had his say, back to Star Wars.

It still boggles my mind that there was a chance in 1981 that David Lynch was considered to direct "Jedi". Seriously unreal.

Hmm, that's some nice theory here, AK, and you may be right. It is an incredibly complex multi-layered movie after all. I just wanted to keep my spoiler somewhat short to not derail this thread any further...Krixtal looks already somewhat pissed that we have strayed so far off topic.

I'd like to apologize for the poor quality of the post above and sincerely hope you didn't waste your time reading it. Yes, I do feel bad about it.

The film was sold on me on one image alone...

Giant robot samurai wielding a minigun fighting a lady wearing a sailors outfit who's wielding a katana.

I mean, come on. How is that not beyond awesome as an image.

If you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all...
