Freespace 2 meets Ace Combat franchise meets Zone of Enders meets Homeworld 2

not perfect tho, and story-wise could've use a bit more polish, single-player only.

still, a very, very good Kickstarter game.

Bought it, downloading.
Had the final arc of every mecha show ever running through my head as I watched the trailer.
All I need now is my Beam Saber....

the premise is the -biggest- thing people have been wishing for years--joystick style flight. and these people are going to make a whole game out of the joystick fleet battle mechanic. and money. good for them. and it's mecha? absolutely going to play.

competition is good.

I'm going to be honest here: technically the game is good. balanced. easy where it needs to be and hard where it can be hard. if you hated Freespace 2's escort missions, you will also hate escort missions here.
GFX are nice, game engine works good enough. Soundtrack was made by the guy that made HW2's soundtrack, and the art in general seems to be very similar.
not having multiplayer in this type of game is bad, but on the technical side, that's really the only bad thing to say about it.

story wise, could be better. needs polish, but I've seen much worse.

TL:DR: it's not perfect nor innovative, but for the price tag, you get a very nice and challenging single-player space-sim.

and collector's edition is a must. soundtrack is a very strong point in this game.

let's say that the Eurogamer reviewer hated the game because he failed mission 3 20 times in a row.

the game has very high difficulty spikes, but if you played Freespace 2 or Freelancer you'll fit in perfectly. it's a return, albeit not perfect, to the golden age of the space-sim shooter.

Played the first few missions.... you can tell that its got a lot of Homeworld cues.

Story seems a little lacklustre as does the voice acting. You'd think that the annihilation of Earths Navy with no enemy losses would put some sort of fear or shock in captain whatshername.

mission 8 difficulty level: ******* bonkers.
Blackfleet frigate = world of pain.
Blackfleet corvettes = torp shooting hellhounds that spawn anti-fighter beams that hit for I-thought-I-had-a-*******-shield damage.
Blackfleet carrier = OHSHITOHSHITOHSHITOHSHITOHSHITOHSHITOHSHITOHSHITOHSHITOHSHITOHSHITOHSHITOHSHITOHSHIT
