ive tried fixing my standings by doing storyline missions and stuff like that and getting getting a positive bonus and a negative bonus half as much to the opposite faction. and then i get -2.4% drops from "ship kill". would doing courier missions get me the standings gains/losses without the ship kills?

Most everything is covered in that detailed document.

I guess I am almost a 'vet' by now. Hopefully not too bitter and managing to help more than I hinder. I build and sell many things, including large collections of bookmarks.

Yes, completing courier missions usually don't have an aggression or ship kill standing hit.

Sounds like you did or have been doing Anti-Empire Faction encounter missions. If you're trying to repair negative Faction standings, it's best to decline all Anti-Empire Faction encounter missions, including if it's a storyline.

I had the same issue - just make sure you decline any missions (including storyline) with the new corporation and it should help. FWIW my post is here - and the plan is really good - I did 2 lots of career agents to get to -2 so that I could do missions with Minmatar corps.
