A little scalability issue for Jita

I'd like to know if there are plans to increase Jita's ability to accept incoming ships.

Like many others I'd love to see EvE double the playerbase and the last expansion might be a good start... yet we are still stuck with the hard cap to Jita.

When I have to bring in 20-30 freighters full of stuff it gets quite old to be stuck at the gate and spam warp for minutes.

Any idea? Like i.e. splitting the node grid and sharing the load on others? Sooner or later (if EvE gets bigger), the issue will have to be tackled.

No, I can't bring the stuff nearby, nobody is going to buy megatons of materials off Jita.

They will if there's just as much there as it is in Jita, which it will be if we double the population and that second half only come as far as Perimeter.

Or just do your hauling at other times than at peak hours on the peak day of the week — dump it in a system next-doors and take that last jump during ebbs in the population.

Question is, they raise the cap to 4000, will it still max out? Lot of talk going on in there either way (and everything is slow as hell).

Of course, but it's not a structural solution. Imagine an EvE with 40% more players, the "peak hours" will become a whole day. They should start thinking today in order to not deliver too late tomorrow.

If congestion in Jita does start to become a serious issue, then one of two things will happen.

Either other trade hubs will become larger - with the possibly of smaller hubs forming in between, or the nearby systems will become trade hubs themselves, forming a 'super-hub'.

Or CCP can just perma 10% TiDi the place and be done with it.

I think statistics could be done and find out a correlation between the amount of subs vs online players vs how many go to Jita. Then the server would need to be "reinforced" enough to keep working as such correlation goes up.

Never, ever log out of jita during peak hours. You won't get back in.

Well, I have trading alts sitting outside, that's the "smart way" to tackle the issue. But the bottleneck is the need to physically deliver the stuff in there. If you spread it around, suddenly logistics matter a lot more and have other adverse consequences.

Idk, but they should try to get as many people in as possible, and always be pushing that max. Jita is one of those icons of the game that is a simple example of what makes Eve great that outsiders can somewhat understand.

I disagree that the waiting is a big deal, and there are all kinds of other options besides packing in to Jita at peak times. However, I think CCP should work on it because of its symbolic value, despite the gameplay value itself being marginal.

Yes, and this kind of protective practices make Jita even busier. How many don't log out because of this idea and further degrade the system?

What happened when the NASDAQ could not keep up with the volume created by a recent IPO? They upgraded the infrastructure. Jita is our exchange and indeed EvE's economy is known around the world also thanks to Jita.

Keep in mind that this stuff is new and mostly untested by consumers. Theoretical headroom over the current server handling this node should be quite a bit though. Also, the hexa-core CPUs are less than half the price.

Right, my point is that it's hardly "broken" right now, but they should be working on it anyway because of its symbolic value. If it actually became such that the undirected collective actions of players was genuinely being limited by the server, then they should definitely be working on it with even more urgency.

To solve a lot of the jita problem, mute local so the spammers would leave, there's no point in being there if you can't spam local chat. Twisted

I was actually thinking that the players could spread the Jita market to include nearby systems, but that is a bit of a pain for anyone really. Doesn't matter if you are a seller or buyer.

The other though, and obvious one, is that people actually have to travel from Rens, Amarr, and Dodixie to buy stuff they can't find there. Wouldn't it be sensible for players to have more than one Jita to accommodate this? Obviously, there is a market. I myself keep a Jita Jump Clone, but couldn't be arsed to fly or transport anything I buy there to wherever I really happen to be.

Jita is there because the players want it there. Not because CCP said 'trade hub goes here'.

CCP didn't put Jita anywhere. They cant "make" a Jita. It's likely that they could never engineer the circumstances that made a Jita again.
If getting your stuff into Jita during your hours is so much of a hassle, go sell your stuff in Perimeter during your peak hours, and let some Aussie or suchlike off peak guys make a little bit of extra ISK buying and hauling between Jita to Perimeter while everyone else is sleeping. Or sell in Amarr or Rens or Dodixie instead.

Exactly, the players make Jita. If CCP can't support a player-made trade hub such that the significance of that trade hub is reduced by server capacity instead of purely gameplay induced decisions, then that is a problem (not agreeing that we're yet at that point though).

Jita exists because it's the "min maxed best" place considering some dozens of different parameters and circumstances. If Jita did not exist another would born from the next best min maxed alternative.

Also, it's not "so much of an hassle", I rarely travel to jita at peak hours. It's an hassle for all those waiting in there, I just got out and Perimeter and even Urlen were full of ships spamming warp to enter.

The resulting discomfort is something that will certainly remind them the *work* routine, including having to wait for 1 hour in queue with their car and so on. That's really not the kind of experience you want to impose in a game.
