redesign wreck graphics and explosion effects where blown up ships is more dramatic, where the ship just sits there as a whole but broken to pieces visually, and salvage becomes redesigned where you salvage all the scattered pieces rather than target one wreck , salvage, loot and tractor, make the wreck as large as the ships itself, each piece of space wreck pieces would have different types of salvage uses where it's only used for making guns, making armor, making hulls for ships, some pieces would be used to build warp drives, completely overhaul the building process of everything in the game, not just mine to build things anymore, doing this i think would revive the salvaging career, the types of salvage would look something like this:

Damaged Ship Hull construction frame = building component for ships
Damaged engineering station = building components for energy modifications
Damaged armor plating construction = building components for ships
Damaged Shield array emitter = building components for ships
Damaged astrometric drive system = building components for ships
Destroyed drone module = Building components for drones
Broken missile silo = building components for missile launchers
Broken turret bay = building components for turrets
Damaged emulated computer = building components for rigs

and so on, but the salvage would also be based on the type of ship that's destroyed npc-wise and the number of guns, mods of the npc/player owned ships, if the ship had 5 artillery weapons equipped then you can salvage all 5 of them, then the whole process of salvaging could actually be equal to that of mining, not better but equal to building mining, then have salvaging reverse engineering blueprints separate from mining blueprints, allowing salvagers to salvage, and miners keep mining having their own market preventing market deflation, and each type of salvage would taking longer or short, and would be larger or smaller pieces based on salvage type, ship size would also have small/medium/large/X-Large versions of the salvage, and the salvaging process of the modules would take different time frames based on size and complexity of the salvage type and rarity

You forgot to mention why.
