Why do people put up Sells 0.01 isk above Buys?

I sometimes see this on the Market and I don't quite see why people do it:

SELL
Widgets _100__19999.99
_________75__19999.98
_________12__19999,97
__________2__15000.01

BUY
Widgets_1000__15000.00

Is it simply to get careless people to put up sell orders at 15k and thus automatically sell to the buy order?

they're selling at the price of the highest buy order, but not checking to see if there's enough to clear all they're selling. The rest then gets put up as sells at that price. It didn't use to do that until around 1-2 years ago.

The person selling the item had a stack higher than what the buy quantity was and used an "advanced/expanded sell order window" with time set to "immediate" was clicked thru.

The difference in qty;s then gets listed at that sell price automatically, as the person used the advanced window, rather than quick sell/simple.

I think you mean without being set to immediate.

Yesterday it was fun. A guy did this mistake with a massive T2 material sell order with a spread of 4k between buys and sells (35% of the price per unit). He has lost some billions over this.

I thought it was to get blind 0.01 iskers to undercut him, thereby selling to his own buy order. Regardless of reason, I make a point to buy those items.

The other difference is that person paid a brokers fee when they didn't need to.

Another explanation is people set sell orders like that to stop market bots changing their orders. At least this was the single best tactic before the great market bot purge. Bad set up bots would underbid your low priced sell orders and you could make a fortune if you had the eye for it.

It also happens when someone gets p***** off cause he keeps getting undercut by 0.01 isk. So he sets his order to 0.01 isk above the buy order and rages "HA 0.01 isk THAHT!".

Yeah, people really do this. I had one person convo me after doing this, essentially saying

"HA, NOW I WILL BE THE NEXT PERSON TO SELL AND THERE IS NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT"

He was right, as I immediately purchased his goods and put them back up at the "right" price.

The guy already intended to lose the isk. It just took a bit longer for him to lose it than he had planned.Smile
