Low sec is pretty cool.

before joining FW I was used to live in an in-depth low sec system with a close access to 0.0.

you could spend days seeing almost nobody. Was like to live in a rural area. After sometime you know everyone around and what they're doing. And things go ahead: there's that guy that everyday at 23.00 enter the system in transport ship to care for his P.I., that other one is going to refuel his POS, the pirate gang during the WE always announced by the same scout jumpin in the system.

Preey peacefull and relaxing :)

Needs updating now that the new mining frigate and gate gun changes are here, and written for those with little/no combat experience. More good tips in the replies too. Hope it helps!

Really interesting read.. What cheap ship would you advise for finding and running sites..

Thanks

+1 OP. Don't let a few forum warriors deter you. People who actually live in lowsec know it isn't all that unpopulated, we don't actually need to motivate people to come into lowsec. Off course that depends per location, we live in a crossroads system that sees quite some traffic. I agree with everyone that says newbies should go try stuff in lowsec, after all you have precious few things to lose and very low clone reactivation costs. Good read OP, stay frosty and keep aligned! Big smile

Yeah well I've continued for the last 4 days warping into to low sec and ratting, scanning and trying to find a frig comparable to mine so I can start trying to engage on my terms..

Not happen yet I keep getting hunted and blown up :) Not all the time mind, I've only lost 4 merlins in about a week and I've played pretty much all that time in low. Plus when I have been taken I know what I'd done wrong to be caught and learnt from it.

The most surprising thing for me though is the attitude of the pirates.. Barring one they have all been helpful after my defeat and I've chatted with them to get advise etc. Plus the last one who blew me up when I was chatting with my corp while at a safe spot (stayed to long and was to slack on my scanner) said check your wallet and stay alert next time. We had been chatting for a bit too.. Checked my wallet 4mil isk in it..

There seem to be a lot of decent people out here who just want to pvp... anyway I'm enjoying myself that's the main thing :)

Best ships imo are tech2 or 3 crusiers. Tech 1's can work well but make sure you fit them for the proper resists. Something with midslots for analyzers and codebreakers and a spare high for a salvager. Should be able to tank decently and be able to kill cruiser/frigates. Moa/vexor/arbitrator are quite good for T1. As for scanning, you can equip a core probe launcher to any of those ships or use a sepperate scanning ship (saves time on scanning) and then switch out to a site running ship.
Certain rigs make it easier to use codebreakers and salvagers so having a dedicated ship for each radars, mags and combats isn't too far flung if you can find a quiet station, but I usually just use one and switch out mods depending on site.

Getting blown up and having a chat about it is pretty common in lowsec and the best way to find decent corps with helpful people. Wandering around solo is possible but usually leads to ship losses against more organized players, so finding a good team is recommended and much more fun.
Keep it up!

For it join FW. Is fun, can do almost everything in T1 frigate and can support any loss with plex payout.

Or if you don't want too just go in FW region and enter "novice" FW plexes, they allow only frigate in and easly you'll find people willing to engage in frigate 1 vs 1.

Also, I sugegst to not travel in and out low sec, find a quiet system fitting youir needs and set your new home there.

We had a newbie join our corp on her fifth day. We took her out on a roam, fitting up a ship for her that she could fly (she couldn't even use warp disruptors yet, so instead we put her in a merlin with 3 webs, instructing her to wait about 10 seconds before engaging so that someone else would have gate guns first).

On that roam, her first roam ever, she was instrumental in preventing a shiny devoter from being able to get back to gate. She was the hero of our corp for, like, a week.

Point is, its never too early to come to low-sec. I also laugh at corps that refuse to take newbros.

Yeah, this is pretty common too.
Beside what some forum troll saying palying pirate or criminal is a role, doesn't mean they're ******* as players. it's just a legit gameplay/profession, as the miner or anything else.

Having your ship blon up doesn't mean there're disrespect, willing to harrass or ruin someone else gameplay, it's only a normal game mechanic.

or just go in anything that can fit a covops cloak and lol @ the silly futility of gate campers.

You don't need a covops to sneak by camps. Cloak/MWD trick with some stabs and a cruiser or fast BC will do fine. I get caught sometimes when I warp into a large camp and my hands start to sweat and shake and I screw up the timing, but I wouldnt give that up for anything. Screw Cov-ops, learn how to fly.

I my look at this though I've got it in my head that my first kill will happen while roaming free in low sec.. don't know why.. lol

Also I do stay in low for most of the time but mining afk(isn) in High while watching a film etc is my income at the mo to fund my loses. Thats why I'm looking into getting into sites and the like to earn more in Low. It'll come :)

Its handy to have a highsec mine system, I do the same thing.

These are some youtube vids I did of running around in low, how to rat and how to undock safely. The video sucks but the audio is good and the info is solid. Sometimes I listen to them while mining.

Great thread by the way. So many players get sucked into the mind numbing boredom of grinding faction for missions and mining high to support 5 plexed accounts with which to make...more miners!

Once you get past the inevitable hisec to lowsec gate camp it's usually pretty boring. I thought there would be armada laying in wait, but there isn't. I ran around TEST systems for hours before they even bothered to come out and kill us.

LoL

my first low-sec experience was in storyline lvl3 mission. Spent like 30 minutes trying to convince my corp mates to assist and help me with this mission and getting "this is low-sec Shocked YOU SHOULDN"T GO THERE!!!". i decided i will try. rewards was too high to just forget.
20 jumps through empire and then 2-3 through low-sec.... mission over. i'm back home. nothing happened.

first my low-sec "engagement" was like first visit. I was just mining in retriever and decided to visit next low-sec system "to mine better ores". System empty, just 1 pilot in local. Warped to belt.... He is already hereLol pointed, killed, podded. Fast and funny.

next time it was very similar. Some low-sec system. Out corp has POS there. With refining facility. OK. Got 2 retrievers, warped to belt, mining. Chatting. Watching local you say? Later! And then.... pointed, killed. Pod escaped. Lol

It's really funny to recall such things time by time.... Lol

However i can't say it is fun or exciteful to visit low-sec. It's just dangerrous trip. Actually you can be killed everywhere. It's just more easy to be killed in low-sec than in empire.

Low sec is empire space. Hence the gate guns, just no Concord patrols.
