It was not aimed at you, use of the quoted "enlightened", more so the sub-topic of the thread. If I go after you personally, you'll not mistake it, I promise. :)

As for going extinct because they are warlike ... maybe, maybe not. Maybe they become war like after they left their planet because some other alien spices did something nasty to them, even if just an accident or some misunderstanding. If we look at the Drake Equation, there could be millions of different beings out there. I doubt they'd all get along.

Not to go all Hollywood on the conversation, but what about the basic premise of Alien movie series. Some creepy crawly beastie on some planet infects some other visiting species and ends up taking over their stuffs and uses that to go on a rampage.

We can't assume anything about them other than they are not us. It's not wise to assume things about other humans, much less something completely unknown.
