Drones and changing skill levels.

I'm trying to find out how to compare drones, before and after my skills apply.

At the moment when I Show Info on drones it seems that I'm getting the standard stats.

Knowing how to do this would be handy for other items too.

Thanks.

If you are in space and show info on your drones, the stats will show with skills and whatnot applied.

Unfortunately the ingame statistics given are unintuitive, weird, and sometimes even wrong (though show info page should be correct all the time). That's why most people use an out of game fitting program like EFT or Pyfa to check statistics.

^^ This.
I just never found another way of knowing my control range for the drones, than telling them to shoot something waaaaay far... if they whine, means too far.

Actually, if you Show Info on a drone that has been launched, it will give the base stats.

The best way to get drone stats updated for skills and ship bonuses is to open up the Fitting screen, open up the drone bay in the Fitting screen, and Show Info there. This can be done both in station and in space.

And drone range is:
20km base
+ 5km per level of Scout Drone Operation
+ 3km per level of Electronic Warfare Drone Interfacing
Maximum drone range without module or ship bonuses is 60km.

+ 5km per level of Heavy Assault Ship skill if piloting an Ishtar

+ 20km per Drone Link Augmentor I module
+ 24km per Drone Link Augmentor II module
+ 26km per Black Eagle Drone Link Augmentor module

+ 15km per Drone Control Range Augmentor I rig
+ 20km per Drone Control Range Augmentor II rig
Maximum drone range in the game is 255km using an Ishtar, five Black Eagles, and two DCRA II rigs.

Getting your control range past 100km doesnt matter too much, and then most of the time anything past 60km can be viewed as excessive.

A Bouncer II offhand has a 102km(ish) max shooting range, though it can, on paper, target things much futher away.
A Garde II maxes out around 45km.
Using Light -> Heavy combat drones can be problematic with the new changes in NPC targetting mechanics if you frequently send them 25km+ away, as they can be too far away to be recalled in time.

For a Sentry based sniper fit using a maximum of 2 Drone Link Augmentor II modules is generally more than enough for your drone controlling needs.

ps
Drones are made of win!!, especially when combined with the awesome power of Missiles.

Drones are win. Love the little beepers.

Your explanation will help me some time in my distant future, currently I'm on a Retriever with 2 Hobgoblin 1, 2 Mining Drones 1 and 1 Salvage Drone 1. Be a while yet for all the goodies.

Aiming to fly this Retriever and an Arbitrator with more success than my previous attempts at running missions.

Thank you for the tip, and this listing.

I finally found out how to open the drone bay, I didn't know we could do that. And using that and then comparing to the Show Info on a Market drone I could slowly and awkwardly compare what my skills were doing.

Thanks again!

Aha. EFT and Pyfa.

I'm conflicted on using external programs.

Mainly for the security risk; affiliated sites and fan sites are the most common route for the maliciously minded as they generally have lower security and players reuse passwords and suchlike.

However I do think external programs let players get more deeply involved with whichever game they play. It becomes a whole game in itself and I think helps a games success. In fact I think that's some of the attraction to people who design bots, not so much the money but the challenge is their reward. Hopefully game makers can find ways to harness that energy better rather than have to fight it all the time.

I will check them out.

eft and pyfa are both standalone applications
and totally safe to use.

you can either use the 'default ALL @5' pilot so you can tell instantly if there is enough cpu/pg to go around
or you can important a kind of snapshot of your character at that time, skillswise.

you should never need to use your eve online username and/or password with either of these aplpications

WOW thats a hell of a setup. I forgot the salvage drones LOL

I thought bout setting up group like that but that, but I'm not too worried bout the miners(yes they almost get a full cycle(with 5 drones) worth of ore before the in the time it takes to fill my retriver(and mack now). Before the last big update. rats loved to eat my mining drones for lunch, so I havent worried bout them much since.
