Embiggen Eve by removing cyno

The ability to project massive fleet power over huge distances is a major problem with Eve. I know this may be flame-bait, but I propose removing regular cyno field generators from the game, and let capitals move around just like subcaps.

  • Capital ships would use jumpgates like sub-caps, but would still use their own fuel (and internal jump drive) to make the jump to the next system gate.
  • The biggest, most powerful ships in the game should not also be the fastest.
  • The cyno mechanic allows alliances to hold vast swaths of space without really doing anything with it.
  • The prospect of moving a small alliance out into 0.0 holds with it the paranoia that a fleet of 100+ supercaps will drop on them with hardly any notice at all, thus dis-incentivising the desire to move to 0.0. This also leads to boredom for 0.0 alliances, who are too big to assault except with another big 0.0 alliance (who the tend to NAP with).
  • This will make Eve's space seem huge once more, and contract the size of 0.0 alliances into space they can hold reasonably well, making room for more people to go to 0.0, resulting in more wars and fun.
  • The jump drive skill could perhaps be changed to provide a minor (5%/level) decrease in fuel usage.
  • Covert cyno generators and the ships that use them would be unchanged, as it makes sense for a stealthy blackops fleet.
  • Remove cyno bridges altogether. This of course should be combined with improved industry options for 0.0 so nobody ever has to go to empire just to maintain their sov space.

Gtfo this game isnt all about nullsec

Why not just add more npc regions in null between sov regions? Wouldnt this make eve seem big again? also provideing more room for smaller corps/alliances to start they null jurney?

Yeah I can't help but think that the bridges shrink the game universe a bit too much as well. This whole idea might necessitate all the star systems under an alliance's control actually having worthwhile stuff in them for this to work, also. Roll

Oh, and as for nerfing ranges on jump engines, I think this would just make moving capitals a lot more tedious, which doesn't really add anything to the game. I like the idea of fleets having to all move through real-space, where they can be intercepted en-route to a target, resulting in enthralling space combat. Convoys - thats the word I'm looking for.

TL:DR, nerf or remove jump ranges and you will actually make it HARDER for small groups to get into nullsec, will cut off entire regions from any form of logistics if they aren't blue to four or five other regions, and further entrench the entities big enough to run freighter convoys.
