I have a stock of auto-targetting caldari navy light missiles.

on inspection of the market I noticed that there were no sell orders for this product and only a few buy orders.

I have used this product before to make a profit, so this time I thought to make a bigger one.


I set about steadily upping the amount of buys and sells to make it appear a much more active market.
I bought steadily from orders waay above regional average because of you-know-why.
All of my high buy orders had a minimum quantity for you-also-know-why.

and then....a mistake...


i had set all my buys from my personal wallet rather than running them from seperate corp wallets.

this left me in the position that if one of my buy orders was to fail for some reason I would suddenly have a large amount of ISK in my wallet.


you can see where this is going im sure, so to cut the suspense i bought about 30 light missiles for approx. 600m!


these kind of revelations are usually followed by much chest beating about how much the player that lost out is actually worth and etc, but I dont feel the need here.

I was running a situation that had a fairly small chance of succeeding for a relatively small investment in order taxes which seemed worthwhile to me, and I failed because I didnt stop to think about the possibly of other people coming into the market.

I'm confused? you tried to set up a margin scam and then derped?

My attempts at (minor) market manipulations have also generally ended in tears. In fact I have many times set things up for someone else to benefit greatly. Recently did this with deadspace and officer module market, where I bought heavily, made prices sky rocket for some items, and then could not log in for a few days to take the benefit, while others made billions.

Things have a way of going full circle though. I had a useless T2 ammo BPO, where the ammo was selling below production cost for many months. I needed some money, and put the BPO up on contracts at 4 times the value to see if someone would bite. In the meantime, someone manipulated the ammo market (I swear it was not me) heavily, and the price of the related ammo skyrocketed a few 100 times, and before I knew it the BPO was snapped up.

Win some, lose some.
