As a PC gamer, I enjoy concepts such as the Xi3's X7 (Piston), Nivida's Shield and Razer's Edge but I really don't care for the estimated price point of any of these devices, so I want to build my own Steambox that hooks up to a 1080p TV for some Big Picture Mode gaming at a respectable framerate.

I am more interested in the hardware here so you can skip including a Windows license so the challenge is for you to put together something as cheap as possible while keeping as much oomph as possible. If you have spare components, you can include them into your build but make a little note.

If you're pinching pennies (which you clearly aren't since you're building a PC exclusively for your TV) you could probably dial back on the CPU to a lower one and OC it. Also, you could bring it down to 4 gigs of RAM and expand later if you need. Thirdly, while a SSD is nice, you could do with a WD Caviar black to afford you some more space to deal with the inevitable results of the dreaded Steam Sale.

Again, if you're pinching pennies.
