I have been eager to expand and move past the venture for mining, but im not sure the next ship i should get or even my options. I do have a Procurer (Dont ask how i got it Cool ) but i am far far away from being able to use it. So what should i move to?

the procurer, retriever, and covetor and their t2 equivalents (Skiff, Mackinaw, Hulk) are all of the mining ships.

Procuror is a good choice for starting on the Exhumer/Mining barge path, it's the logical step up from the Venture since the cruiser revamp killed off the mining cruisers. It is capable of fielding an indecent tank (Retriever is squishy and soft), is pretty cheap and the skills you need to fly it will put you in good stead for the Mackinaw and Hulk later.

I would suggest also training some support skills as well, as most ORE vessels are shield tankers you will find training up the shield skills advantageous as they apply to a great many ships, not just mining vessels. Drone skills are also handy, it's up to you whether or not you field mining or combat drones while mining but once again the skills themselves apply to many different scenarios in Eve.

You've come to the right place.

'Mining Chat' is a good way to learn more about mining, should you have more questions (Be warned: There are many... odd people there.)

As for your question: If you plan to go in low or null security mining, a Procurer or Skiff is the right choice. While being agile and having the effective hit points of a battleship, you'll do decently if you pay attention

If you just want straight up yield alone, go for the Retriever/Mackinaw. They have large bays and decent yield for such a task solo.

If you plan to mine with a fleet of any sort: Get a Covetor/Hulk. Stupid high yield, but with no cargo to hold it all.

A 3% mining implant can go a long way.

That is all.

I don't always do shit. But when I do, it's usually worth doing.

Last time i checked the catalyst it is in no way a mining ship. Trolling new players is not a sport or fun and is dealt with rather strictly, so please do not do it again..

Having a procurer standing by is cool, but don't throw that Venture out the door.

The venture is a solid ship with many uses WH miner, gas miner, and can get into missions for roid mining where the barges cannot, including some less know roid fields not normally mined but still there.

I can fly any mining ship and I still use the venture plenty of times.

^^ this TBH, Venture is a pretty versatile ship, most people use it to mine, others have found that it makes really good stealth tackle and have also found a use for the built in 2x warp core strength.

The Gas Mining bonus makes it pretty useful in a wormhole too.

The Venture is a wierd little ship, aquired as a newbie, but with a plethora of later usefulness.
I'd say from a design standpoint, re that utility, it's probably the best ship CCP have produced for us to date.

tl/dr
The Venture is made of win.

I'm waiting for the first RvB ganked Venture themed roam, there's just so many ways to fit the damn thing.

However the Catalyst is the defacto ship of choice amongst miner gankers, which is why he used a pirate smiley.

Or was that not obvious enough?

Give him a break, he just didn't give enough information. A catty can fit more mining lasers OR a rack of cheap neutron blasters. If the guy is getting ants in his pants waiting for the barges to train and wants better yield right now learning to suicide gank miners and just stealing the ore is a viable alternative....and MUCH more fun.

You could also train for a tanky hauler and steal the jet cans that are becoming more common now that you get a suspect flag for doing it. This is also a viable way to gain ore faster than a venture can mine it.

If any new players would like more info on these ways of collecting ore just bump this thread and I'll spend a few minutes giving detailed instructions and useful fits.
