I get this IMO thing a lot about the Rifter..

But how good a ship is just isn't about opinions..

in the end its ALL about the numbers and how you can use them..

Close range brawlers that are better than the rifter: Atron, Incursus, Merlin, Breacher, tormentor, Kestrel,
Scram kite brawlers that are better than the rifter: Incursus, Merlin, Breacher, Tormentor, Condor, Slasher, Kestrel, tormentor, Executioner.
MWD kiters that are better than the rifter, pretty much every single frig there is.

Yeah I get that and I never disagreed. I'm trying to say, for the OP, if you don't have missile skills you can fly a rifter. Its not as bad as you guys are making it out to be. Lets face it, in the beginning, you're gonna suck in whatever you fly so fly what you have skills in. I consistently go for the ships everyone says sucks and try to get some performance out of them because I think that's fun. Also, I've been able to get some decent fits out of it in eft.

and as for logrim, I'm done interacting with you. You're a click to orbit/turn on guns/call for help/flame on the forums type. Thanks for calling me a moron you emo giraffe.

I've seen several comments where someone states "Ship X is easier to fly". I'm a noob as well, and dont understand what that actually means. You point to a destination, click warp to, or jump, or whatever... but other than double clicking in space somewhere what makes a ship easier to fly?

Simplest example would be a buffer tank vs an active tank. With a buffer you don't have to do anything, its just a big health bar. With an active tank like say an armor rep, you need to activate it, which means you need to know when to activate it, when to heat it, when to bait tank, when to conserve cap, etc. It's a lot more to think about.

On one end you have like... a Tornado, which is all about positioning and typically only has like three active modules, no drones and it's easy to fly in my opinion. On the other end of the spectrum you have like... a tripple rep Myrmidon, which is incredibly hard to fly because its slow, has poor damage projection, has like 8 or 9 active modules, drones, guns that use capacitor and a cap booster, maybe even two cap boosters.

Another thing worth mentioning is that there are a ton of frigs out there, and training time is pretty fast to get into a given race's stuff.

Pick one to start with. Get frig to lvl 4. Get weapons to t2, and support skills to lvl4. Buy 10 of what ever you are curious about. Fight until you lose them. If you really fall in love with one, great. If not, try another in the same race. Or a different one. Then get that race's frig to lvl 4 and weapons to t2 and support skills to lvl 4. Buy another 10.

There's no reason to restrict yourself to one race of frigs even early in the the game. It can be a benefit because smart opponents will look at your KB losses to check out what fits you tend to use. If you have every race available, you can catch people by surprise, even if they are doing their homework on you.

Plus, that puts you on a good path to prepare to take advantage of the destroyer/battlecruiser skill split coming up in the summer expansion.

I honestly feel like I just read fifty shades of dumb. --CCP Falcon

Edit: Just tried to make a kiting Rifter in eft and it's not really possible... Train a wolf?

need 200 mm ac II"s, rocket launcher II

experimental AB1, langaur drive disruptor (web), J5b prototype warp sram

DCUII, Armor rep II, 200mm rolled tungsten plates

1 burst airator
2 ambit extenders

throws fusion at 7k and barrage at 12, need good fit skills, and you kite within scram range, can replace web with a td, it works but like the web better. there is an arty one but don't know it off the top of my head, and am at work so no EFT

Ewww afterburner

your serious? 90% of ships in low sec fit a scram or an AB because of the scram

And Garviel Tarrant one of your old corp mates Dark Magni had great success in Rifter for a long time ( granted he is a very skilled pilot), even beating some of our better pilots in 1v1's.
