How important are voice comms in W-space?

I know, I know - can't do ops without voice comms.

But is it absolutely necessary for everybody to speak or just listening is enough even in so nasty environment as WHs?
In BRRC basically whoever wants to talk talks but except FC and scout(s) nobody is required to talk on ops. And fleet channel is observed by basically every fleet member.

As for just chatting up with corpies we mainly use in-game chat channels not comms.

So how it looks like down the rabbit hole?

Most of my corp/alliance is too inebriated to write coherent sentences, so I prefer comms.

Not a diplo.

if you are not using voice communication in any team based multiplayer game, you're doing it wrong.

I should buy an Ishtar.

After a while all the slurred, drunken babble feels like a second language lol

No trolling please

Listening suffices for most PvE, including C4 sleepers. My corp "requires" being on voice comms to enter our WH, but we allow low-risk exceptions, such as people logging in to reset PI. We mostly chat in voice comms.

PvP is another issue. Yes, PvP will find you in W-space.

So it seems I will have to put creation of WH chapter of rebelz up to vote because apparently you all can't live without yapping your mouths down there :)

Keep in mind, it could be good discipline to help avoid having a member accidentally type something in local...

True story:

One day when we had little activity in our WH, a group of miners came in and started scanning. We had 2 or 3 grav sites at that time. One of our members was semi-afk in the WH. He noticed his local tab flash. One of their miners said something like, "Wow, look at all the good ore! This is going to be fun."

It was a good day. Shortly thereafter, we bagged ourselves a couple hulks, an orca and sent the miners back to hisec via the pod express.

Comms or GTFO. Its a requirement to be on comms. You won't be able to hear us singing without it.

We have a player who is mute, they only listen on comms. Our only requirement is listening to comms, we appreciate that it may be late and people may be in the house sleeping.

This answer applies to all Finns playing any game ever. You can safely assume we are all shouting drunkenly at an arbitrary number of other Finnish players at any time, who may or may not be too drunk to be of any use.

I can't be arsed to type when I have the choice of holding down my middle mouse button. Makes me life easier. If RL permits it then yeah, otherwise, comms or GTFO.

It really depends in my opinion. If you have a small group of serious players, you can definitely be succesful with chat only. However as things get bigger, chat might get flooded and voice comms will be very important. Size and type of engagement are key factors in wether voice comms are a must or a bonus.

Not being able to communicate in a fast and efficient manner would hurt not only the person who won't talk, but everyone else in the hole too. We have a dude who whispers on coms due to where his comp is, and while it is funny as hell, if he didn't we'd miss a lot of stuff.

Definitely comms. You can get more info to your corp/ alliance members over comm than typing.
