Similar modules that affect the same attribute?

So, several items, like the Gyrostabilizer, have in their descriptions the comment:
"Using more than one type of this module or similar modules that affect the same attribute on the ship will be penalized."
Does that mean I simply can't use two of the same thing, or do I have to guess what I can't pair items with? Like in this case, I can't fit anything else that affects the turret speed and/or damage?
Can anyone expand on this prohibition a little more?
Thanks!

Ah, thank you! I didn't know to look for "stacking penalty."
Thanks :)

The question "can I fit more than one?" is answered in the item description. If you couldn't fit more than one then it would say so (see Damage Control for an example of that).

The question "how much will I be penalized?" is a good question and answered by the stacking penalty link above.

To put it simply; fitting two of them makes full sense and a 3rd still makes sense if you can make that happen slotting wise. In some shipfits it can even "make sense" to fit a 4th but those are few and far between (4 BCS Raven for instance, or a 4 gyro Mach for missions).
