Yes it's in the average for a MMO, but from an rising MMO (as stated by another poster) I'd expect the 7-10% to yield to an actual online players number increase if we go from 300k subs to 450k. Not a constant. Else it's not rising, it's "ranging", which is my point.

That 450k figure includes the Chinese server just FYI

This is true. And to be fare most of the growth is probably on Serenity, I am not sure Tranquility has yet to recover totally from the Incarna fiasko. But it looks like we might be there soon.

When Blizzard came out with "World of warcraft" it was nothing more than another orcs/elves/humains/dwarfs/gobs/Trolls MMO, we can safely say it was a clone of all the precedent ones with orcs/trolls/dwarfs etc.

However no one with an ounce of intelligence can say the clone is crap, after almost 10 years keep around 14million subscribers is an unprecedented record in the history of gaming industry, all the bad things I can wish to SC is to be that successful, as I would like Eve to be that successful but after a couple years just stop expecting this because of CCP bad choices this will never ever happen.
Hope SC becomes what Eve is incapable to do, attract and please to millions of players of all kinds all around the planet and leave special nerds to Eve. In fact Eve looks like a nice experiment laboratory for something else (SC?) able to offer everything Eve is incapable of and not do the same mistakes.

I'm not an Eve hater at all I love this game, less than before because I lost trust in CCP, but I'm a realistic guy and if someone with balls and cash enough can make a better version of it I'll be jumping to it for sure like many others around.
It's only my $15 opinion and I'm realistic enough after a couple years to know it worth nothing for CCP.

WoW is successful because Blizzard had been in the gaming industry for close to 15 years, and the Warcraft franchise was already 10 years old. If you're naive enough to compare a fantasy themepark MMO with a sci-fi sandbox MMO, I can't help you.

There is no comparison to be made about the genre but in the company will to succeed. And I'm probably, even sure, naive but the point is still there, the best I can wish to SC is to become what Eve is incapable of.

It is impressive I agree but I also hear that they lost ≈1/3 of the players landing on 9.1 million subs recently ...

And that is a good thing because any game that wan't to have multiple millions of players has to succumb to the new breed of entitled players that demand instant gratification and PvP flags. And that would make a horrible EVE.

Of course if SC developers make SC "Just like EVE" it will be bashed as an EVE clone so they are going to get it one way or the other.

I dont understand why people are comparing SC with Eve. SC has an actual flightmodel, and is not a clickfest like Eve. Actually I think SC (and Elite Dangerous and Limit Theory) is more closer to the space game I wanted to play when I started with Eve.

Haha. The troll insinuates that the average eve player has 10-15 active accounts. Try harder.

We will see. I always found those Wing Commander "you shoot in the direction you fly" games a bit annoying because you always ended up bumping full speed into your enemy. But maybe there is a whole different mechanic now who knows.

I would love to see some Joystick implementation in EVE actually. But it would probably also need some new HUD for better position awareness. It could be really handy in PvP maneuvers to catch orbiting interceptors or manually compensate for better tracking. That mouse click mechanic we currently have is not really helpful in this cases. Well they have 2 years time to come up with something, they better fix the POS system right now.

It's good to discuss this. I don't doubt the EVE devs are reading all the buzz around SC and E:D. They have to keep eye on any plausible competition which, let's be honest here, has been pretty non-existant for the whole lifespan of EVE.

Everyone of you who love EVE, you should be wishing for SC to be a brilliant space game that will seriously threaten to eat EVE's playerbase. It's the only way to make sure CCP will stop wasting your hard earned dollars for projects like a certain console game, and put that money into developing EVE instead.

"hardcore" eve player is dieing breed. times are changing and if ccp cant change with... then there will be left the small group of those hardcore bittervets and nothing else. and before you know server is put to its final rest. other games are coming and they do not intend to be as harsh palce as eve but to serve people of today more friendly place to exist and do what they want without having to fear someone coming and ruining fun and game experience service they are paying to be playing.

We all know you goons think that you're playing EVE the only way it was meant to be played.

Unfortunately with that attitude, EVE will eventually shrink and die. Competition is coming, CCP needs to be prepared. They can still offer the most harsh and thrilling experience, but if harsh and unforgiving is all they offer - well good luck with that.
