Look for a few people to start the journey of low sec pirating with

Only advice i can give you is either to join RvB or goto lowsec FW systems and do some solo pvp in FR or CR. Both ship types are really fun right now due to the last buff and changes in crimewatch especially that sentries will only fire at you if your crime was comitted in sight (and won't shoot at you again after you warp out and back in on grid) and never fire at Drones.
Just check my kills/losses to find populated systems to start with. Most importantly check out the fittings and figure out why that ship was fitted like that, what purpose did it have. Most times solo ship fittings are different to fleet fittings especially the meds and the low slots can differ a lot.
Check out the Tuskers killboard and their losses, those fittings are usually very thought out.

And if you really want to test out frigs, try a Kestrel or Merlin, the Rifter (slashers are far better now) times are long gone.
