Alt-dragging probes on arrow should behave like when shift-dragging

You can use the alt modifier key, while dragging scanner probes in the system map, to easily change the difference between all active probes.

When you start dragging a probe by one of its arrows, the probe (and all others automatically because you´re holding ´alt´) is moved such that the cube is centered on the mouse pointer.

I expect the probe not to skip and simply keep the ´arrow´ (which you drag the probe with) under the mouse pointer. Just like when you use the ´shift´ modifier.

I sent this in as a bug report, because of the difference in behavior between alt- and shift-dragging. But the BugHunter Team is quite persistent in claiming it is not a bug and referred to this forum. So here it goes.

You misunderstand what Alt dragging does.
Alt dragging keeps the probes in relation to each other, and allows you to scale the formation you have them in.
So if you have them in a nice cube, you can simply rescale the cube.

Shift dragging moves the entire cube at the same size.

So... NO! LEAVE MY ALT SCALING ALONE!

You misunderstood what I'm saying. You're excused for that though, since it's often my problem that I fail to bring across my meaning.

So let me try again. First I love how shift and alt drag work together so well right now. I think there's something wrong with a small part of how alt-dragging works though. Something that is fine when shift dragging.

Now, suppose you have a probe (only showing two of the arrows):

<- [ ] ->
.........^

You can drag it by the cube or the arrows. But when you start dragging it on the arrows, suppose the right one, the probe jumps immediately to the right so the cube is now centered on your mouse pointer (the ^ here).

....<- [ ] ->
.........^

So, the probe only wants to be alt-dragged with the cube centered on your mouse pointer.

When you try the same with shift-dragging, the probe does not center its cube on the mouse pointer, but keeps the arrow you started dragging with 'centered' on the mouse pointer instead.

Since this specific behavior is different between alt-, and shift-dragging, I'm of the opinion that it's a bug.

Did that help?

This happens to me all the time, it is only when you are looking at the probes from flat on the side. Grab the arrow to move and the probes go all twitchy.

Moving your view up or down from the planar should help, try and make a video of it for CCP to look at as I think its a client side bug and harder for them to track / fix.

Yep, this bug is annoying. I start to scale the probes, but then they suddenly jump first, and only then they start scaling. Why jump? Just scale. Yes it is a bug. Not a bug in sense that it don't work. But it is a usability flaw. Flawed functionality is flawed.

does this happen when you're zoomed out, perhaps try to zoom in... a lot

on another Probing related issue, do you guys get annoyed at all with the labels on your map when probing

sometimes if I have a mad cluster of sigs in the middle of a madder cluster of celestials and previous bookmarks that have been visited I get these labels popping up all over my screen and interfering with me grabbing the arrows

I tried turning them off but you can't. CCP should allow us to turn them off like the "Hide All Bracket" function so we get a clearer view of what we're doing, so only sigs not probed to 100% may be shown...

no more games... it's real this time!!!

It shouldn't matter how much I have zoomed in.

There is another thread about those popups:

I think this happens for me regardless of zoom or orientation too. But I can give it another try.

About making a video, that's quite a good idea. Considering how the first response here didn't understand what I was trying to explain. Maybe I'll write another bug report then and then they'll get it.

The reason I am often trying to use the arrows is often because of the labels. There are usually way less around the arrows than at the cubes.

I added a link to a video in the opening post that shows the issue.
