So I've just had my first gank from gate campers

I was on my way to the Christmas event with newbie ship and foolishly thought I would cut half of the travel distance by taking shortcut through lowsec. I ran into a gatecamp, about twelve strong, and my Ibis was blasted to small bits. Fine, no problems, it wasn't ship I was using much anymore. Then I got message from the Comedian-In-Charge: I would have to pay 75 million ISk or they would pod me. As my character is about month old, and I haven't spent any money on PLEX (and I have spent ISK as it has come), the demand just made me laugh. In fact, it paralyzed me with laughter to the point where I failed to heed to the order to stop and thus they promptly podded me. I did get to the event with another ship, so there was no harm done. I am just warmed by the thought that low-sec has such enterprising comedy groups.

the first time i went into lowsec on sisters of eve arc to buy something i got ganked at a camp
didnt understand anything, tried engaging at the same time as burning back, then couldn't get my pod back thru lol
then the next 100 times i went through to low i saw no camps
so yea bad luck on your first time lol
nullsec is prob safer than low for travelling, all you get are solo sabres who run away at the first inkling they might lose

Very good. But there is only one problem.

I am not sure if I want to have anything to do with people who are dumb enough to think they can get 75 mil ISK from a 1/mo char. I mean, WTF?

I don't even want to play the same game as people that stupid. Don't want their tard-cooties on me.

honestly, grow up.

why shouldn't they shoot you? they didn't know if you were here to kill their buddy, had valuable cargo, etc. you seem very upset considering you say you aren't.

don't think someone has to be upset to point out that low sec gate camps keep a lot of high sec people in high sec.

if there's one thing e-uni and to a lesser extent TEST have taught to the whole of eve, is that 40 noobs in rifters can, and will, obliterate any "elite pvper" in a 4 billon tengu, humiliate over and over any 5 player "elite pvp" corp that dares to wardec them, hilariously lose dozens of 10m ships while inflicting loses ranking in the billions.

one can only imagine what they could do to a half assed lowsec gate camp, specially with he new t1 cruisers.

most gate camps would crumble to 5 - 8 thoraxes/ruptures regardless of SP difference.

and even if they cant break the gate cap, so long everyone is shooting the same target, anything dies, even under reps. just aim for the shiny, and enjoy the the sweet nectar leaking out of the pirates tear ducts when they come to the forums to ***** about getting gang raped by 10 people.

one day the high sec people will realize there's strength in numbers.

oh lol, JK it will never happen. Lol

There might also be a chance he was using auto pilot as his only loss is a pod worth 41 mil in a system called Parts.

I've been playing a month and I couldn't put my finger on why.

Now I know.

Look, I took the bare minimum equipment with me and I was flying in a Vexor that I could afford to lose so I'm not bitter about the loss.

But on my very first time exploring outside high sec, the fact 3 idiots are spending their time at midnight on a Sunday next to a jump gate in a 0.3 sec system in the middle of nowhere and have nothing better to do than take out a crappy vexor in 3 shots then podkill the owner means there are clearly a lot of tossers playing this game.

And if the mechanics allow them to scare off new players, then 40k peak numbers is all there is going to be.

I was warned, I read all the reports, I am not surprised or shocked. I had just hoped things weren't as bad as everyone made out. Perhaps it was just bad luck and 9 times out of 10 I would have been fine. But I doubt it.

I'll keep playing for a while but all those whining that hi-sec should be nerfed should know why no-one goes null sec. I suspect most of us are more than happy to leave to tossers to their onanism and we'll fly space ships for fun instead.

cool story bro.

Op:

They call it LOW-sec for a reason. While there are certainly a bunch of really good pilots in Lowsec, there a quite a few pea brainz who's idea of achieving something in Eve is sitting on a gate all day and ganking anything they are capable of killing. Heck, if we had little old ladies with interstellar baby carriages they would gank them!

Don't get down, just learn from your loss and get a huge laugh when all the lowsectards whine on the forum that there is nothing going on there. (meaning they don't have enough easy targets)

…if you're only seeing 40k during weekends and 20k during workdays, you are playing off-peak hours, probably somewhere around either 15 or 02 EVE time. As such, your “middle of the night” is everyone else's lazy afternoon — where else are they going to be, but skipping about in low to find some odd target while waiting for everyone to get going?

For the record, weekends have been peaking at 50-55k lately, and work days have been around 45k.

Low-Sec is very easy to travel around without getting caught in gate camps. IF you do a little reading and practice in High-Sec before venturing out.

Null-Sec is a different story with the added ability to use warp distortion bubbles.

I would suggest the OP take this as a learning experience instead of a chance to whine.

Learn some tactics by using the many guides that provide information about how to fit, fly and survive in Low-Sec.

You honestly should be able to see outside before you undock and/or jump. Nothing against gate campers/station huggers, but considering the technology and the fact that we have "traffic control", you'd think you could at least get a dscan from your out gate, or look out a window or something before you undock. Jumping/undocking blind seems a bit stupid.

Knowing how to get around these things makes it no less senseless.

what troubles me most about the OP is:

why did you need to go outside Hi-sec?

you will notice from the wall of whine™ in this very page of the forum that we have everything in hi-sec, don't go outside you are just ensuring those players are back next week - they at least killed a Vexor on saturday, who knows what next saturday will bring! Perhaps a Caracal!

Learn from this mistake op.

Next time try scouting your jumps, check the in game map and look for high activity on ships and pods going boom, traveling with corp or alliance mates, and remember to never blind jump to any gate, d-scan it first.

And also learn that no matter how diligent about all of the things above, eventually you will get caught, and you will go boom.

Eve will punish people that blindly jump in and have no clue, but the more you know of the game the better it will be.

You learned a very valuable thing from this experience. Always use a scout if you can. Low-sec combat is common at gates. Things are usually not this bad but I suggest you get a friend to scout with you, and always pack a prop mod so you can burn back to the gate if there is trouble. Also pods align instantly so if you're going to explode make sure you warp to a planet. An easy thing to do is to add the sun to your overview so you can make sure you have something to warp to. Don't write other sec status areas off just yet, bring friends next time you go Big smile.
