New server type Part X

Hey all. Thread rule = keep it clean.

OK - I have read some of the threads about new server shards, and was curious about the idea of a consensual PvP server. What I had in mind was something exactly like the current one, except:

PvP only allowed in lowsec (0.4 and below)

That's it.

My questions are:

1) Who here would move completely to the new server?

2) How many new players do you think this would attract? On many other fora there seem to be lots of folks who like the look of Eve, the mechanics, but just don't go for PvP. Let's face it, this is the best space sim out there.

Note: Please try and keep on topic and not diverge off into rants about carebears, ganking and the like; we have seen that all before and don't need a repeat.

My answers:

1) I would

2) A lot

Nope, if you want a non pvp server, use the test server.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Multiple shards are the epitome of carebearism.

Things are only impossible until they are not.

Yup, we already have the test server for this sorta thing.

Lets say some company made a eve-like game which was much more Pve-centric than eve. But it still had spaceships solar systems, a player driven economy, mining, industry, claimable space and so on. Just... PvE centric vs PvP centric. (That is the economy is driven by the NPCs blowing up stuff).

I would be interested.

But another question: Who should get the money for the subscriptions to that game? CCP, or someone else? If its CCP, then it would be a shard of eve with augmented NPCs so they are dangerous enough to drive the economy. If its not CCP, then as soon as a game like that is available, CCP loses money.

And another terrorist carebear that needs to be shot at sight.

edit: It's not about *trying* to keep the thread clean. You're insulting us. You're insulting CCP.
You're insulting the game by ignoring everything it's about.

You need to get your ass kicked. Hard. Often.

Just stay in your NPC corp if you don't want pvp in highsec. No need to worry about wardecs. Just beware of gankers.

Hmm - maybe it bears repeating:

1) Who here would move completely to the new server?

2) How many new players do you think this would attract?

While I appreciate repeated carebear comments as much as the next person, I am curious about folks' thoughts on those 2 questions Smile

1) About 200, since the server would serve no purpose to play on and since the game would cease to funciton. I think that's what you see on the server that has the rules you're talking about (Sisi / Bucky)

2) No-one is interested in an “MMO” with a peak population of 200 people that gets shut down after a week since it can't carry its costs. The ones interested in the game you're describing are already playing that game: it's the X series.

if you want to annoy an npc corp member, spend the wardec fee on a bounty, if it's fat enough they're guaranteed to die a few times.

In what way is my post inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic? I don't want 'feeding' - just thoughts on my 2 questions.

Because it asks a pointless question that has been answered a billion time and which you know will cause a riot. It's pretty much the epitome of trolling.

Hmm - not if folks can keep on topic. But I am relatively new here so maybe I'm hoping for too much? If so, apologies.

I wouldn't even log onto the new server (terrible idea and been done to death, F&I is the place for this)

Not as many as you'd think, and those that did would find Eve has mediocre PvE content, not to mention that assets should not be transferable between shards, or only once from the PvP to the PvE Instance, you don't get to interfere in the other shards market.

eve pve content is pretty horrid. that's not going to draw players.

With the increase in shiptoasting, the Report timer needs to be shortened.

But there would still be all the PvP you could want in 0.4 and below, or is it the chance of PvP anytime that is the attraction?

They are. It's exactly the discussion you were asking for, and if you don't want it, don't post on the forums.

No, you don't get to decide what people say in a thread.

It's not only the attraction — it's what makes the game possible. It would require a complete re-write to have it work in any other way and not be completely meaningless. Again, what you're asking for is the X series — if you want to see it implemented with EVE assets, look at the test servers for a real-world sample of how popular it would be.
