So what has the new drone AI changes done?

1. Well lets see, they've broken ganking. Try using ewar on someone with full hate in a complex. Really go on, try it.

2. Drone boats are pretty much useless. Target paint all you want, won't fix the initial problem of isk was hard enough to make with the complex nerfing and every which way they have nerfed ways to make isk. Now its just flat out ridiculous.

3. Get turrets? Right, get turrets. That makes sense, missiles and turrets should be the only way to rat right?

Wonder how many more posts it will take until CCP responses and says "Welp we messed up...fix it for ya in a year or so."

Have to agree with most of this.

Lol @ the sneaky douchebaggery of trying to gank people too. Thats was a rude awakening for me. Used a pilgrim on a wt hawk in a belt. There was a bs and 2 cruisers there he was shooting. I decloak point / neut all that jazz, deploy drones and ALL the belt npcs start shooting the pilgrim. I survived but it was damn embarrasing fighting a hawk in that plated monster and looting the field in 30% armor.

a small addition to point 3: turrets are virtually useless VS sansha, blood and serps. Guristas also became a bigger pain but at least ECM can miss.

The problems with this category of complaint:

1) The changes don't hit PvPers. (Correction: I guess they DO hit PvPers, according to the OP, but not the right variety.)

2) It's pretty much the perfect target for that ubiquitous mob which runs around yelling "adapt!" because they think it makes them seem like grizzled, hardcore EVE vets.

This combination of factors pretty much guarantees that the issue will be ignored for the foreseeable future.

i cannot speak for drone boats or complexes but the part with turret ships being useless in sansha missions is bogus.

I should buy an Ishtar.

I have to agree with #3. Personally I like to use my drone alt just to break the monotony of turrets and missilles a little bit but that has been taken away for the moment at least. Now for me running missions with drones has become a monotonous chore.... More so

The worst part is that the biggest hit that was unforeseeable was on the newer playerbase. Sleepers are supposed to have this type of AI I agree, they are very difficult and so is living in a wormhole...(thats why you can make so much isk)

However, I have a few friends who I have gotten into this game. They just started getting into battlecruisers and t1/meta fit battleships. I tried to get them into null with me, but whats the point now? If they come into a complex with me, they will get shot and probably die in fair short order. Let them explore a 10/10 with me? Why? To lose another ship?

The way the rats were before was absolutly fine, because it allowed older players to say "Hey you little newbro in a cruiser, come with me to this hard mission/complex. You can see what it'll be like for you, milk a bit of the bounties, salvage if you can, pewpew some bad NPC's" and basically get them interested in this godforsaken game.

Now what are they supposed to do, sit around in a noctis and wait for me to finish a site just to come hoover the wrecks? Yea, that'll get them hooked on this game let me tell you...

what the op said. People tend to forget that when you are new player you need to have an attractive content so you will continue to want to get to know this game. Those changes could have improved a bit the experience but not the way they made it. Any new player invested into gallente and drones for example , will have to choice to stick around not having fun until cross train different platform , or possible go to another game . CCP did some steps back but they need to do much more .

Ride hard, live with passionĀ

Wait for the target to finish killing targets, uncloak, gank. Just as it was done in Wormholes ever since they were launched.

Drone boats were used afk before. The change keeps you on your toes / demands one button press every once in a while. Amagad, dey brokeded it, my preciousss!

I'm using drones just as much as before, no need to get turrets. In fact, my alt went for Amarr precisely because they announced Prophecy to become a drone boat, which means they now have an alternative to lasers on every tier 1 ship type.

So what has the new drone AI changes done?

It makes players complain about it.
It makes players learn and adapt about it.

Let me guess. OP belongs to the 1st group?

I'm not going to dispute that somebody, somewhere, in the history of EVE once happened to use a drone boat to complete a mission while AFK. But it certainly was never prevalent player behavior, and even if it had been, it would not have been anywhere near an optimal way to complete missions or make ISK in the game. That this was somehow an extremely common thing for people to do with drone boats is just such a completely blatant myth.

But the thing is, CCP hasn't even said that this is why they changed NPC AI. So you can sit there and make up a bunch of reasons if you want to, but at least admit you're gathering them from thin air, not from anything that CCP claimed.

When you say changes wont hit pvpers. Where from you think pvpers get isk to pvp? It doesnt drop from sky you know.. Even pvpers has to pve to buy ships and stuff. Unless they uses hisec mining alts/marketing alts..

Not to even mention "the hunting side" of pvpers aspect..

Oh please quit trying to act like some HTFU nerd. Nullsec is NOT wormholes, you shouldn't have to sit there and wait for someone to finish a site to kill them. There's zero point to that.

Drone boats were never used to AFK. That was an isolated incident that was resolved quickly. 99% of people who use drone boats HAVE to pay attention or hey guess what, your drones are dead and probably your ship.

Your thought process is terribly flawed, and you have the stench of a new player trying to make yourself look special. Just get out.

I still don't think that qualifies as the "right kind" of PvPer, as far as CCP is concerned. If the people who live out in nullsec and are self-sufficient with what they earn out there were effected badly enough, and they complained loudly enough, something would get done about it. But your average Joe who makes his nut running L4's is not really somebody who CCP is inclined to care about. Especially when there's this overwhelming wave of cynical fools backing up CCP with the "adapt!" argument.

1) Because it makes perfect sense that enemy ships should just target one person ALL the time. Your complaint is "I actually have to take risks killing people". You serious? What if players had been jumping in and cloaked, and waited until you followed, got aggro, uncloaked and killed you with AI help? Would you have come here and complained about use of cloaks in plexes?

2) Me and another player I know, actually just switched to drone boats as the ones we picked are far easier to tank, can lob out multiple sets of lights and meds to handle frigs - as a lot of ships are far more limited, and if you lose those it can get hairy - and still carry sentries and a MJD to decide from where we need to snipe.

3) I never got that many agent missions with TD/jams, and I avoided soloing ones that evesurvival stated "lots of EW", as they don't seem to spread it around to all ships, so two ships, mission fixed. Just because you "can" solo every single L4/Plex, does not mean every mission should just be possible that way.

I apparently have no idea what I'm doing.

I'm hardly an elite player, and the extent of my experience thus far is really soloing level 4 missions in my Sentry Domi, but . . .

I'm not an elite player and I can solo level 4 missions in my drone boat.

Furthermore, I've been doing lower level missions in other drone boats and rarely losing a drone. Sure, it happens occasionally, but if you've fitted a drone speed mod (or even two if you're desperate), and you pay attention, it's not a big deal. The other option is to fly in a ship that is speedy and stay in close range to the NPCs you're fighting.

If you need any more tips, I'm sure you can ask in the New Citizens Q&A!

The old method wasn't really that fun. I do like the new mechanics more, especially from a realism standpoint, although I'd like to see them tweaked a bit. Some variability in drone bonuses on drone platforms would be nice. The same old 10% to drone hitpoints and damage per level gets old, I'd like to see a drone tracking bonus added to the ishtar in place of the hybrid bonus, and more raw drone damage from the rattlesnake, to replace the current missile special ability.

As far as young players, I think the new changes allow for more options; now you can have more room on your own ship for damage application while your younger friends get real practice in logistics using the upgraded t1 logistics cruisers, or you can fly some sort of heavy support ship or something while they focus on damage application. There are more things to do now than show of your solo mission running skills while your friends watch and collect partial bounties.

You mentioned complex nerfing. I would love to see some complex buffing, that's for sure. There are far too many "bad" sites that no one wants to run.

Since it's the ewar (scram, web...) that pulls aggro from carebear to 1337 pvper, may I suggest not using them? After all, your dangerous opponent isn't using them.Lol

THIS

Exactly my issue.

Dont get me wrong I like a challenge.
Got pretty annoyed that on L4s in an APOC my light drones targetted as soon as they are deployed, but I adapted to different tactics and managed to mainly solo even through having my turret range damped down to 8k!!!! every minute.

The main problem is when I have brought new players to this game I have always run L4s with them for that bit extra - makes them go 'OOH!! me wants Battleship!!' - and they are hooked into the whole skill thing.

Now the lack of a newbs motor skills and attention to recall and redeploy drones and warp out every few minutes has really messed this up.

The hill just got alot steeper.

Post with my main? This is my main - I just overtrain and overplay my alts.

The new AI is just one more step toward making pve useless as a source of income. CCP is moving toward making it impossible to pay your sub by playing. These are the death throws of Eve. All MMO's do this toward the end of their life; try to suck as much money out of the user as humanly possible.
