That word: I do not think it is used how you think it is used.

Now you are making no sense. As usua,l so nothing new to see here.

Yeah my opinions are so dumb and annoying that people put billions of ISK in bounties on me

How would getting likes be irritating in any way? Im curious...

When you get them constantly, it's hard to separate out frivolous likes from those from people who actually agree with your posts.

Nah. You just have to think of 1 as being the base number instead of 0. Blink

…also, I suppose you still have notifications turned on? I gave up on that ages ago for obvious reasons.

There's at least two "likers", FluffyDice and Destination SkillQueue

Pretty sure the 1st implementation would let us put bounties with money we don't have. Thats the way of code implementation. But then it would work.

So I've noticed that I've been getting likes on posts that have been deleted or in threads that have been locked.
I have absolutely no clue how this is even possible, but I will say the constant likes are getting irritating.
What's the deal, yo?

Same here all of a sudden got about 70 likes in one day .Assumed someone was bored as hell so asked in my salesthread if the bored person could stop it as it's annoying.A day later i got 40 extra likes ..... Roll

This is Eve. If you ask someone to stop doing something, you can be sure 14 more people will see that and start doing what you asked to be stopped.

For instance, stop giving me Isk, its so annoying.

Woa I came back from Christmas with the family to 61 likes... there's no way that many people liked me. Then I saw this post..

I feel like one of you who hate getting these "likes" should start a real petition and get 25,000 signatures on it in order to force the white house to address this issue. Please link it once crerated. Thanks Big smile

I was slightly creeped out when I saw 30 likes all from the same guy, some on posts in locked threads from 6 months ago, like he was just going through my post history and clicking 'like' on my posts like some obsessive weirdo, but I'm happy to know it was just a script.

To be fair though, I deserved all of those likes, and it wouldn't be fair to the script user if he had to actually read all of my posts to heap that much praise on me.

I consider 'Likes' as a quality-control measure - They don't tell me when I'm badposting, but they do tell me when I'm goodposting. Likewise, I could point out goodposting by others.

The scripts have pretty much wiped that tool out.
Other than that? Eh.

The mass likes are a scam to create credibility for throwaway alts:

Step 1: Create alt.
Step 2: Alt creates many useless posts.
Step 3: Give out mass likes as "holiday gifts."
Step 4: Post a 10 to 20 real posts with alt to create a credible posting history to fool a cursory background check.
Step 5: Use the Alt to scam with. Because an alt with a high like count and a large posting history is obviously not a throwaway alt.

That sounds like a lot of work... Most scam victims aren't worth that much effort, for they won't take that much effort to background-check the scammers. Which is why scammers succeed.

Since nobody else has asked, wth makes you think that b/c it is a new calendar year ppl will stop using scripts to do something is potentially annoying lots of ppl on the forum?

But i do kinda miss the legit "like" count...

Just so everyone is aware, we know people are using scripts to hand out likes, we're currently discussing what, if anything, should be done about it. In the beginning you could even like your own posts using js, now it's just a matter of using said js code to like post number XXXXXX

Which is what they're doing pretty much. Destination Skillqueue started with this pretty quickly after the forums were released, sorta showing how broken the like system is, not totally different from the bounty system in-game right now where everyone runs around with 100k bounties for the sake of it being possible.

Same goes with many of the likes when they script it like that.

/c

Yep... you can even find thread about how to exactly do it (with the actual script) from these forums... and hilarious dev comments from same thread :) Seemed perfectly fine thing to do at least back then.

So far I haven't had a big issue with it, but it has gone on longer than expected and seems to be spreading. I appreciate the likes of course, random as they are, if for no other reason than it count my forum posts. j/k..

..actually, I had no idea Chribba kept as good of track of all this as he does until this came along. It was rather interesting to see the likes graph and history for him and others, including myself. Quite a jump in the last week, no doubt. Smile

I've never considered likes super important, but I've never been frivolous with them either. Not in the giving, and certainly not in attempting to receive through the likes thread which does much the same thing, if for different reasons and somewhat more controllable fashion.

Either way, Like it or not, it has to ed sometime, and I notice today it has dropped off to nearly nothing. Perhaps the result of this thread. I don't think the givers really intend to cause any grief or have the ability to have their fun cut short.

It was interesting while it lasted. I think I gained somewhat more than 1100 likes through that. Blink

Not really anything wrong with them using scripts to wring tears, kind of funny.

However, if you really wanted to redo the likes system why not just use something like the old karma system from overgrow.com. I think we were allowed to give karma 5(?) times a day, and could give people either positive or negative. It meant that someones Karma score actually meant something as shitposters ended up with negative values.
