Ok I need some experts to really chime in on this for me because its really confusing!!!

Obviously im a newb.

I got my scanning gear on and went into a wormhole and found a grav site there with the intent on mining it. i bm the warp entrance which was, conviently in Dodixie, the warp exit and my newly discovered grav site. the plan was to bring my venture there and get some rare ore... Well went through all that and got a full load of Bistot. But when i brought it back to be sold it was no much more or even equal to high sec ore??????!!!! what gives whats the point of mining in wormhole or even rare ores with high risk when there is no payout?

Am i missing something here?

Does anyone here Wormhole Grav site mine? If so what am i doing wrong?

thanks alot...(first post)

Prices in eve fluctuate according to market conditions. At the moment, mining Bistot is probably not worth it if you plan to sell it right away, as Cerlestes seems to indicate that mining Scordite in high-sec is a better proposition for short-term gain.

However, if you hold on to that ore, prices on the ABC ores might go up shortly (they probably will. Highsec ores are easy to mine relatively safely, whereas ABC ores take risk to get).

Bistot is bistot, everywhere.

As far as the prices of various ores, it's an unfortunate result of the player-driven economy. You can either check the market before starting, or check a website such as Cerlestes to see which ores are worth it.

The price of the high-sec ores went up a while ago, because CCP nerfed junk mission drops. A lot of the low-end minerals came from mission-runners recycling all the junk modules they were getting, rather than from actual high-sec miners. On top of that, there were quite a few hulkaggeddons (people hunting mining ships for lolz and kills), and CCP re-vamped all the mining barges.

Null-sec miners go for the high-end ores usually, resulting in megacyte and zydrine minerals. And empire players mine the low-end stuff, but mining is boring and obviously it hasn't picked up enough to drop prices drastically, to the point where the high-end ores are clearly much better than the empire ores.

Right now, no, and especially not in wormhole space.

Empire asteroid belts are usually mined out, you'll have trouble finding asteroids, but they exist here and there. You can also scan for gravimetric sites in Empire space and get some ore that way.

This really isn't true. I spent a year as a miner and never once had any problems finding asteroids to mine.

the trick is not to mine anywhere within 5 jumps of Jita, or 3 jumps of any other major market hub.

Use the site that both myself and Merouk linked. Cerlestes is a GREAT site. Sort by ISK, and it will give you the value per m3 of ore you mine, assuming a 100% refine. That will maximize your profit/risk dynamic.

The low/null/whole ores are often lower in value than simple Veldspar, Scordite, Tritanium, etc. Obviously there is something wrong with this, but it is what it is. I could see how a little wormhole ninja mining could be fun, and to some extent may be worthwhile if you are using the minerals for your own production, but it isn't worth it from a market value perspective.
