The bounty system ain't perfect. Its just a tool. What can be done with it is, as so often, left to community.

Depending on how you are looking at this, the changes made in Retribution, especially combined, are glorious.
The bounty system was never thought of being a tool to give you payback, for whatever your enemy did. And it certenly can't avoid anything from happening (that is and always has been up to you). Combine the bounty system with crimewatch and the killrights and it works.

I do not say, that you will be able to get scammers (they don't leave station).
But I hope scams do not work as good anymore as they used - after all, we all should know by now that there are scams, and are watching out for them.

I do not say, that you will be able to get suicide gankers (cuz they only get out of their station right before they act).
But again, I hope you do know by now how to get your **** through high sec, wihough gettin your ass handed to you. And for the love of God, I hope you're not travalling around in your pod!

For PvP this is a nice addition. Its an addition, cuz if you didn't like PvP before you won't like it now.

But if you do not use your brains when using a tool, I really can't help...
Its pointless to place a bounty on someone that does not get out of station, or best case - rarely.
Its pointless placing a 5Bill bounty on one character. That bounty will never be depleted.
And its most likely pointless to moan about the tool, when the real problem is the guys, who don't know how to use it (sorry for the harsh words).

I'm sorry, but I am one of those who do not see the glory.

As you point out, it is pointless to place a bounty on someone who does not leave station. You also note that it is pointless to place a 5B bounty on one person.

However, it is also pointless, "as I look at it", to

1. Place a 100k bounty on anyone.

2. Place a bounty for "lulz".

3. Place a bounty for posting on these forums

4. Place a bounty on someone "just because I can"

5. Place a random bounty on someone just because they are flying through Jita or Hek.

Since at least 90% of all bounties placed since Retribution fall into one of the pointless categories, the new bounty system is basically pointless.

It makes for stupid, even ridiculous play of Eve. (Again, as I and a fair number of others look at it.)

I remind CCP that Blizzard made a costly mistake some years ago.. forcing pve players to do pvp if they wanted any good gear.. almost all pve players left that game after that release.. and Blizzard had to change the gameplay back.

forcing the pve players to do pvp is never good.. We play pve cus that's what we like. If we are forced to do pvp we will leave the game.

EvE did not get 10 years old for it's pvp part but the pve part... Why do CCP make the same mistake as Blizzard and only listen to the pvp'er who will never have enough to kill?? Stop destroying a great game by forcing more and more pvp onto us non pvp'ers ..

EvE has enough pvp with out making high sec one big hunting ground of easy targets for pvp'ers.

Blzzard almost broke their necks bask then by making that mistake, almost make the go broke, and they was forced to make a lot of game changes so that non pvp'ers also could enjoy the game on same lvl og gear as pvp'er

This is the same mistake.

CCP WE WILL LEAVE THE GAME IF YOU DON'T STOP MAKING ALL PVP

regadrs

ps. I know alot of non pvp'er how thing the same.. so it's not just me

A complication with the new bounty system is it has nothing to do with justice or retribution. It is instead just legal griefing.

Unlike PvP, or ganking, or tracking down an intruder in your corp area, there is no skill whatsoever in placing a bounty on anyone. No skill, no work, no effort. There does not need to be any interaction. All you need is someone's character name.

Here is an incomplete list of reasons published on this forum for putting a bounty on someone under the new system:

1. lulz
2. because I can
3. whining on the forums
4. I dont like the way " " is playing the game
5. random

As you can see, there is no "game" in any of this. No retribution. No real Pvp. Just no game.

Frankly, the new bounty system takes Eve from being a sandbox to being a stupid game. It has some functionality compared to the old system, because it has ended an obvious exploit of the old system.

However, the larger problem for CCP is that a substantial part of Eve players are not interested in the forced PvP that the new bounty system supposedly encourages. Half of all Eve players have never left hi sec. They like playing the game with the hisec mechanics. If they liked playing with losec or nullsec mechanics, they would have gone there, and paid their subscription rates for that privilege

There actually is a large number of players who enjoy a space game of accumulation, trading, and building, and have no interest in blowing up someone else's property, or getting their own blown up.

The game already allows those who feel strongly enough to play against carebears right now. It just requires accumulating some isk, and using some skill.

So what is CCP going to do? Prevent half of its subscribers from playing the game they enjoy playing? I personally think this is another not-well-thought-out mistake.

I agree the bounty system is pointless. I put a 100k bounty on my friend every time he logs in. And I put a bounty on a copy so it would spell boobs. Why? Because its funny and both are mostly care bears. Now revamping the kill rights would be very good. That I can get behind.
