Just wait for tiericide to hit BCs and BSes. No BCs below 100 mil, no BSes below 250mil. Its gonna be so much "fun". Ugh

Would that really be such a bad thing? If you can not afford to spend 250M on the hull and another 100M fitting it, then you probably are also lacking the skills to fly it properly.

I see the issue of ships being to expensive to jump into as a good thing. With ships being more expensive there is a higher chance of the new players being ready to fly them by the time they can afford to buy them.

Besides the tutorial gives out a venture mining frigate now. Venture can make isk way way faster than the old bantam or other "mining" frigates you used to get. I would say a very large percentage of EVE players made a good amount of there first chunk of isk mining in a frigate before having the skills to start running missions. I am talking about the first week, not first months of a new players experience. When you could fly nothing bigger than a frigate, had minimal tank, missile, and gun skills, mining was actually the best option. Once done the tutorials you had the skills, skill books, and ships, to start running missions. But we all mined at least a few cycles in our first weeks.

Lets assume you are doing upgraded anoms or have a high sec incursion alt. 100-120 m/hr. So for single fitted fleet ship (as you said it, 250 hull and another 150-200 mil for fittings, because all coo kids pvp in faction fits these days) you need 3 to 4 hours of bearing. Currently 00 is quiet. But in time of wars I remember friends who could lose several fleet fit ships in a week (or in a evening if its hectic fight).

After battleship tiericide T2 fit BS of any tier will cost ~350 mil. That is still 3 hours of any best isk grind in the game. And if your alliance doctrine calls for faction fit T3s and navy battleships...

That is a lot of hours spent bearing. Even if you are doing it on a alt in safety you will still have to PLEX the alt adding another 4 hours of farm each month just for sustaining your farming ability.

Other than C3+ holes you are not topping those numbers, and for raw isk income there is nothing above those. Trading and scamming not included ofc.

Now imagine some poor kid trying to fit a T2 fit T1 cruiser for PVP while doing L2 or L3 missions. 3-4 hours of grind for a single ship. A hour for a T2 fit Rifter.

And then be a smart-ass and whine about people being too risk averse.

The number ONE reason of getting killed in HS as a mission runner is insufficient skills trained. Pilots getting into a too expensive ship too early leads to loss mails and frustrated pilots who will leave the game. I think CCP has the balance right were it now takes just a little bit longer to upgrade to a bigger ship.

ALSO, remember, bigger does not mean better in EVE (something that is easily overlooked espcially by new pilots).

The addition of the Venture has made it actually VERY easy to make sufficient isk to support at least cruiser level ships. After doing ALL tutorials and mining just for a little bit each night, a new pilot should easily have 20 - 30 millions in his wallet after just one week.

I had a chat with a 2 month old player recently, he has lost 2 x BC and a cruiser and still has 150mil in his wallet from lvl3 missions and mining, all for maybe 3hrs a day.. so its not that bad out there for the new players..

I dont think it's a problem.

I started a new toon a few weeks ago.

After running all the training missions she had banked 12mil pluse payed for all skill books/fitings and had more then a few frigs destoryers hanging around as well as a few Indy ships for hualing.

I have never seen it so good starting out a new toon before. Did not even have to send her isk.

Is it a rock point a lazer at it and profit. Is it a ship point a lazer at it and profit. I dont see any problems here.

I "cheat" with my new toons, i give them isk for cerebral and plus 4 learning implants.. you will be amazed at what you can learn it the first month if you plan it properly..

A serious hurdle for all new players to overcome is how to buy that first cruiser. With the new changes to ship costs, the price of cruisers is essentially out of reach for a new player. This is likely hurting new player retention.

Currently, only mining (and exploration) scales with inflation, missioning and ratting do not. Other things have severe time investments that prevent new guys from engaging. Missioning is a core activity for new players, but L1, L2 and L3 missions simply don't bring in enough to keep new players actively engaged and progressing to the point of having fun.

CCP, please investigate the abilities for new players to make ISK at reasonable rates that scale with the rate of inflation. Its for the fun of everyone.

I think part of the problem--- and this is just the highsec carebear in me talking, not the lowsec missioner/exploration/FW guy--- is the proliferation of blitz missioning strategy. Blitzing may very well get more missions under your belt quicker, and that leads to better faction standing (let's face it, noobs don't know now to effectively convert LP to isk, so we'll ignore that for now), but there's a lot that is missed out. For starters, salvage, even in L1's, can lead to building rigs for more isk, and it really doesn't take a whole lot of skill to build some of the items that sell good everywhere. Also, loot drops may not be as elegant and brag-worthy of taking out a Revenant with your TEST or Goonie buds and splitting the haul, but it does get you isk in short order.

The OPs example--- a noob paying for a cruiser--- is very easy to get to in one short afternoon of L1 or L2 missions. We're not talking T2 fits on T2 ships, but the OP's example of a cruiser. It's very do-able. OP should stop complaining (hint: his post is apparently a not-so-subtle attempt at a "buff missioning" thread) and offer suggestions.

Any noobs about there want a max-run rig BPC to help them get isk coming in from their salvaging? Drop me a line in-game: I'll give you one free.

Highsec anomalies have good chances of Faction frigates, they just need to get lucky.

There are also meta items which are worth a great amount, even meta1 armour hardeners are about 500k last I checked.

Oh Look! Bittervets familiar with the ways of the isk moaning about noobs making easy isk. Clearly, noobs all know how to maximize isk/hr, as opposed to spending a hour figuring out the hud.Roll

Why isn't that 1 month old infant pooping properly? It's so easy! *lays a big one*Big smile

if you cant afford a cruiser you are doing it wrong.

also those types of players are prolly "solo" pilots and any pilot worth his salt would be in a proper corp and would have them given to him that I am sure of. ( within reason )

Great.... So "new" and "worth his salt" in the same area. Gotta love your logic.

You're type of EVE player is just so... "precious" and "special".

Hit question: What part about "new player" didn't you grasp?
