Was advised to ask here...

I'm looking for a laptop that can play eve, it seems to be really hard to find any specifics on what will play it ok.

I'd like something portable, main gaming is on a pc I built, this would be for lighter use when I'm away from the PC.

I've seen the Asus Vivobook, i3-3217U with HD4000. 11" 1366x768 screen, so not too many pixels to push.

Would something like this play the game ok?

Just the one client, nothing amazing as I have my PC if I need it.

It should work, HD 4000 graphics are not that bad but a better choice would be to get a laptop with a AMD APU. The APUs from AMD have quite a bit better integrated graphics and should provide a smoother experience for about the same cost or less then a Intel based laptop.

At this price AMD don't seem to have anything to compete.
GPUs in this range are roughly equal to the HD 4000 and the CPUs are much weaker than the i3.
Plus taking into account the size, and fact it has a touch screen. I can't see a better value portable laptop for under £500.

I've hunted for an AMD one, and there is supposed to be an AMD Vivobook, it just hasn't arrived yet.

There've been a few very similar threads not that long ago.

There might be better alternatives from any of those viewpoints to running just the HD4000 inside the CPU, but we need to know your reasoning about it, what's important to you first and foremost.
Or the HD4000 might be sufficient for you.

Where are you ok to order from, any site that delivers in the UK or just some specific ones ?
Are refurbished machines ok, or do you require a brand new one ?
How large/small or light/heavy would you prefer the machine to be ? Would it need to be ultramobile, or work more like a desktop replacement that needs to be somewhat mobile ?
What's more important to you, battery life or FPS ?
What's your total budget ? Is it a hard-limit or a somewhat fuzzy number ? Would you pay a bit more for some particular feature ?

You know, things like that.

For instance, if a second-hand machine is acceptable, you could go with something like this:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lenovo-G770-17-3-inch-Laptop/dp/B005TPRVSK/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1354451675&sr=1-1

I guess quoting that reply from the latest one almost entirely as was is the quickest way to assist ;)
Long story short, the integrated graphics in the last generation of mobile Intel CPUs can generally handle one EVE instance in decent detail at decent framerates (actual performance depending on exact model, they're not all quite identical), and if that's all you need, then that's enough, provided the laptop has enough RAM so it can spare enough for the shared memory.
However, there's a few low-end standalone graphics cards that don't really cost that much but offer you a significantly better performance overall, and for some of them near the lower end of the spectrum, if nothing else, then at least the fact they have non-shared RAM.

By the way, that last link, it's a
Lenovo G770 17.3" (i5 2430M @2.4GHz ; 2GB AMD 6650 standalone vid-card ; 8GB RAM, 750GB HDD) -> " 1 used from £457.89 "
...and that's one of the best you can possibly get in that price range tailored to my personal preferences (which are probably not identical to your personal preferences, but should be at least close), that is, if you don't mind the "used - good condition" status (I personally wouldn't mind at all, given the exact circumstances, but you never know what you prefer instead).

Ive spotted a Zoostorm laptop with no os. Just a bit bulky. Still, i5 3rd gen, 16GB and 1TB for £399
I'd really like something along the lines of a netbook that can do light gaming.

Small and light + good screen resolution + can play EVE smoothly + very cheap + buy new ?
Sorry, no such thing at this time.
Reduce requirements, drop at least one of those conditions, preferably two.

Other than the one linked above, you could try something along the lines of:

Again, that all before being said, this would be able to run EVE.
But like you said, pretty low resolution, however that's more or less a given for cheap small devices.
Performance should be tolerable, especially if you reduce graphic detail a bit.

Alternatively, you can always remote log-in to your home PC (via Teamviewer or such) or (later on) use a service similar to OnLive.

OP should consider the i5 14 inch version of the vivobook, it is not that much more expensive than the 12incher. The bigger screen should be nicer for gameplay, and its 1.8kg weight is still quite manageable if you need to carry it around.
